With these 4X style games how do you manage your time?

Do you just set a number of turns to play?

Do you play until 4 am and hate yourself all day at work?

What strategy do you have?

Either have a clearly visible clock around to remind you when to stop and save, or directly set an alarm.

Also, getting better at the game helps, because the time for one round gets shorter. smiley: wink

Mostly I just manage my time by only playing ES on Saturdays and Sundays, when all my work is out of the way.

On occasion I will play an MP game on a weekday if the opportunity is presented, though

Depends on what stage of the game. If I am near the start I play for 25 turns, save and normally exit. If it is near end time I play for 10 turns, save and exit. I delete the save games after I finished the game. I keep a copy of the start of each game until the next Patch comes out.

I just got ES with the special deal on Steam and started playing fri night at about 6pm. When I finally took the time to go look at a clock it was 4 am. So yeah the time does get away from you. I put in a total of 21 hours on ES already this weekend. lol

^^ Thats pretty impressive. Although, I put in 64 hours in my first weekend (4-day weekend smiley: stickouttongue) I vowed never to get that absorbed in video gaming again lol

Hahaha oh the memories. When I first broke into the game (had a bad start, got stomped repeatedly....didnt understand a thing....ended up staying away from it for a week) I infected myself with the "1-more-turn" syndrome which can be pretty extreme. Finding myself falling asleep at 3 AM in the morning wasnt uncommon and usually Endless Space was the first thing I booted up when coming home from work (apart from sitting on its forum while AT work /grin) so yeah......finding a control for your playtime is rather important and I commend you for realizing that smiley: smile

Me, I have a watch in front of me now....I usually end up with free evenings so playing until I feel I "should" get some sleep isnt uncommon but I rather decide that on the run. Some time ago I had to set the alarm and handle the game like a TV episode (awww damn, end of episode...it was great would love to see the rest but have to wait till tom) in order to get sleep.

I m not sure you can avoid these phases of addiction completely. I know I never had in my life. Whenever somethings fun you tend to do it a LOT and sometimes (often) forget your time about it.

You ll figure it out smiley: smile
