Shhhhhh.... I have a wife and kid to feed and can't do the time. Besides 'Steal' doesn't seem to fairly reflect the value of that offer, even with the exclamation point.

I have given up on the game - since Multiplayer basically sucks since last patch or 2 (Crashes the game), Single Player is fine.

Or if you are bad at the game like me, the AI continues to impress.

The game is quite good actually, but it's kinda meant to be played with friends. AI is not so smart. Playing in SP mode kinda gets boring after awhile. You should get your friends to buy the game also. Or you can get some new friends here.

Its a little harsh to say that they are abandoning it. Members of the team will continue to work on ES long after EL and DoTE are finished, as they have said.

Yes, there are some things wrong with ES. No, some things it looks like the devs have no desire to improve, so I have begun looking into changing on my own. Stick around and see what the community does smiley: wink

I have to say a resounding no. I think the game is dead now as the Dev seems to be focused on their other two games. I haven't seen any change to the games2gether progress screen since just after the release of the expansion.

There are some member of the team still working on Endless Space and they have not given up on this game yet. VIPS and Moderators have more information that I do.

congrats on getting the game and Welcome to the forums. I can understand what you are saying about X3 but it really a game that you can take some time to complete. I prefer X2 where you can spend a long time setting up a company which then help funds the progress in game.

I guess I'll take another break from Stardrive. Gives me more time to mod I guess. hahaha

Hello all,

It seems that in these days of strategy games released as open betas, forums are the best place to go to figure out what a game is truly like. For example, the feature list on the store page/back of the box doesn't speak to any bugs or balance problems, while reviews online may not have taken into account the latest patches.

I've looked on the forums here and it seems that opinion is kind of divided on whether or not the disharmony expansion is a good thing, but that's mostly between people who already had ES to begin with.

I'm looking for a 4X space strategy game-- should I get ES and ES: D for $35?

PS I already have Stardrive, but that's getting ported to a whole new engine so that some desperately needed features can be integrated. So I'm gonna hold off for six months on playing that unless something new comes up.

Well, that was a pretty resounding 'yes.' I bought it.

With regards to a few things,

truePANCZASU does good video's on it,

Far and away the most entertaining "Let's Play" I have ever watched-- even the slow parts. Partly it's because he's so enthusiastic, partly because he has one of those accents that just improves whatever he's saying/reading.

ES is brutal for newcomers. Start on easier difficulty levels with pirates turned off. It might hurt your ego but ES is a game that definitely requires a warm-up match.

Started on "Easy" as the UE and am having a great time fighting off the hordes of Cravers knocking at my door. From what I understand they have some mechanic such that I can kind of wait them out as long as they don't keep expanding. I left pirates on, though, and have had to deal with some nasty surprises, including a massive fleet spawning at my capital (is this a symptom of low approval, btw?)

Wait till November, X-Universe Rebirth will be released then...

I got X3:AP on a steep sale and had fun, but then got a little bored searching the galaxy for some computer component for the plot. I'm not holding my breath for Rebirth.

Stardrive is being ported to a new engine??

Buy it. You will most likely enjoy it (and even if you don't like Disharmony, you can still freely switch to vanilla. But personally, I don't think it's necessary)

A few tips:

1) Start with Disharmony. I'm quite certain that it'll be much easier for you to adapt since you don't know a lot about ES anyway. As a direct result you'll probably enjoy the expansion more then most players.

2) ES is brutal for newcomers. Start on easier difficulty levels with pirates turned off. It might hurt your ego but ES is a game that definitely requires a warm-up match.

3) Playing with a friend is indeed a decent idea. You can learn together and help each other out.

4) Feel free to turn a lot of victory conditions off for your first few matches. That way you won't stress out too much that an AI can beat you to the victory.

... I'm spechless, you actually recommended my videos smiley: ohh That's the last thing I expected to see from you!

But yeah, watching yt videos is usually a pretty good thing. If you do go for mine, I recommend my >Harmony playthrough. My more recent videos are from a multiplayer game and they could be quite confusing for newcomers

Well, you should, of course, buy the game. But 35$ seems a bit much. Most of us bought the game when it was on discount.

I bought the game, liked it well enough to recommend to a friend, but then lost interest. However, I came back to it months later and really got hooked!

Here are a couple of things that improved my enjoyment of the game:

1. Learning what the planet improvements are based on the pictures. This let's you look at your planet's build queue and decide at a glance if you want to build an improvement. This just comes from playing the game.

2. Turning off pirates. However, now that I'm better, I'm going to give them another try...eventually!

3. Playing the game cooperatively with a friend. It's an ideal game for this because you plan your turns simultaneously. Of course, if you're more competitive, I'm sure it's great for competitive multiplayer as well.

4. Getting to know "vanilla" first. I think starting with (or starting too soon) with Disharmony would have been too overwhelming for me.

5. Making my first custom race. This was huge, but it was necessary to learn the game first so I knew what I wanted from a race.

You can swap between classic and Disharmony and see the difference.

I like your poll options lol

Well, as said before, Disharmony isn't perfect, but adds a lot of content to an already great game, so I'd say you'd get it smiley: stickouttongue

I forgot to mention there are lot of Mods that can alter the game so they might provide something you want to do.

Er, I mean, ES is a pretty good game overall, though it does have its own quirks. I would say ES: D is 80 to 85% of the way there. What's left is mostly work on AI and balancing the combat. I would rate it as a much deeper and more developed game than Stardrive.

There will always be balance problems but the vast majority of those left are relatively minor. A lot of things have and will be changing fairly often as amplitude isn't exactly the company to jsut leave things as they are, the game has gone through so many iterations it's untrue. Generally though I find the best place to decide whether or not to buy something is to go and watch a youtube video on the game. truePANCZASU does good video's on it, and trust me when i say this is a powerful recomendation when I have made video's on the game myself in the past :P

There are a few bugs depending on what OS you are using. I am currently on Mac playing and I enjoy playing ES Disharmony. I can spent a lot of time in the custom faction editor.

If you look at this thread it has a some screenshots from a Dev hosted multi player and link to view some of the Videos from the game
