OK, so what does -5% Ship Cost on System actually MEAN?

Since the DLC/patch came out, I figured I'd start a game and see what's changed.

One of the things I noticed for the UA was that their ship hulls changed (apparently along with each other race to a degree?). So now instead of the DD hull getting cheaper weapon modules, it gets the '-5% Ship Cost on System'. Same with the BB and DN hulls.

So what does this actually mean? When designing ships, I can design a Corvette that is significantly better than anything on the DD hull (due to the -25% cost for Support modules and ditto for Cruiser vs BB - the Cruiser is always better due to the Weapon module discount). So where is the advantage of the 'cheaper ship cost'? I mean, even if it's 5% cheaper for a ship that is 10% inferior, that's not a 'bonus' IMO.

What's the story here and what was wrong with the old bonuses that made sense for those classes? lol.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I do believe that is supposed to be a bonus applied on the system the ship orbits. I'm not completely sure, though.

Um, you mean UE? I don't know what UA is...

-5% Ship Cost on System means that while that ship is in queue in the first slot, the cost of all ships (including the itself) are decreased by 5%; the bonus is removed as soon as the ship is removed from the first slot of queue (or built and therefore no longer in first slot)

OK thanks for the info.

And yeah, I meant UE. smiley: wink

But is it just me or is that 'bonus' totally underwhelming? A 5% cost reduction on the ship? Really? I'd MUCH rather pay 5% for a more combat effective ship via the other bonuses (-25% Support or -25% Weapons or any of the other races' Module cost reductions).

What am I missing here. I mean, you can only have one ship being built at a time in a given system, right? So what possible advantage is it apply the bonus this way? Wouldn't it have been easier and more intuitive to just say '-5% Ship Cost' for that Hull type (although again, if that were to be the case it's still a pretty lousy bonus IMO).

Yea, its somewhat underwhelming, but the dreadnought bonus is -30% cost, which is fantastic. I guess the lesson here is go big or go home.
