Two Games, Two Different Philosophies

There are two 4x games that I currently plan, and I enjoy them both very much. Yet, I play them quite differently.

Game 1 = Endless Space. I play this mostly coop with a friend. I have my own custom race, and I don’t have much interest in playing nor designing any other races.

Game 2 = Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes. This game is strictly single player. The real difference is I find myself wanting to try many different races and hero types.

I found it interesting that in one game I’m so set in my ways and in the other variety is what keeps me playing. How about the Endless Space community? How does everyone else play? Any difference between ES and any other game?

In ES I usually pick Random in SP to keep things interesting since Custom-Races have a tendency to be massively OP. In MP I use a Custom too since you have no chance of competing with other custom-races otherwise. I usually still lose since the other's custom-races are usually just better thought out than my own.

I have and like Fallen-Enchantress aswell. I also played random races there. However, the races don't feel too different from each others. Except the one that turns all shrines into Dark-Shrines. The heros on the other hand indeed do.

My biggest gripe with FE is the pacing. Being able to move only 2 tiles without roads makes the game feel unnecessarily slow. Also the starting-postions sometimes are extremely different in quality. I had games where I could found 6 or 7 cities without running into anyone and I had games where I couldn't find a single spot for additional cities. All on the same map-size!

I'm looking forward to Endless Legends, which hopefully takes the best from two good games to create an even better one.
