Just 37 hours for me, but I too play lots of other games of varying types. Don't have as much time to play ES as I'd like, even when I'm not working. I just need more hours in the day. :P

LOL -
Yikes, I'm at over 400 hours.... Maybe I should go and see if my dog needs to go outside...
. There is only 1 game I have been playing over 400 hours so far - Civilization 5. In Endless Space I have 30 hours.

Well the thing is, with a slow-moving deep strategy game like ES, most people usually play just one game, or only a few-dozen turn portion of it at a time. So you don't stack up the hours because the game doesn't pace itself in any way; you do the pacing. I feel like I've played ES a lot now, and I've only done what, 40 hours so far. Then there are games like Fallout 3, that to me, feel like I've played just a normal amount, when the truth is, I've played Fallout 3 for over 800 hours. Oh and more about the pacing, twitch-games like Counter-Strike etc. pace your gaming to a bazillion few-minute rounds, and that stacks up the hours sooo easily.

Then there's the immersion point, how you can lose yourself into sandbox-RPGs for days, quite easily. ES gives you a concrete scenario where you constantly have to plan your approach to the simple concepts it throws at you, and those things are always the same, basically. ES is a clear-cut series of tactical decisions, and you can take all the time in the world to make those decisions. It is funny how it gives you all the freedom, but that freedom is something you won't lose yourself into, while as with totally different games like open-world RPGs, the game's freedom is what makes you get lost into a jungle of "oh I can do this and this and this".

Coming from this perspective, I would like to hear from you guys who have played for hundreds of hours, how do you view this? Do you feel this has mostly to do with what kind of player you are, more accurately; is this the only kind of game where you spend hundreds of hours, or is it something about ES? This is a very interesting topic to me smiley: smile

I personally like very much long, deep TBS-games and I spend my (gaming) time mostly with those (so it's not suprice that my favorites are games like EU III, Patrician III/IV, ES, Civ II, Alpha Centauri etc.).

Nature of all of these games are that kind that I spend/have spent lot of time (=hundreds of hours) with these games.

I've played about 103 hours so far. It's not that much, considering I'm a Endless Space hardcore fan.

According to my STEAM record, I've played 262 hours and have accumulated 39 of 73 achievements. I play in spurts of one or a few nights at a time. I also love to play RPG games such as Skyrim, Witcher 2, Fallout 3/NV, Guild Wars, etc. But I also love space type games such as Endless Space and other turned based games. I am an old retired gamer and have played related type games such as MOO, MOO2, played Freelancer for many years, love to play the much in-depth X3 Terran Conflict, tried EVE, but didn't get into it too much because of monthly costs.

Have fun all !!

I'm approaching 200 hours. I have 40 achievements. I've yet to play a single MP game. I'm not a fan of RTS, though that last RTS game that I played and enjoyed was/is DoW 2. I like to play at my own pace. Every time I play I try to play it differently. ES needs more fleshing out on several levels, but once that happens, this would be my favorite game of this genre in a long time.

A year ago, I pre-ordered the Emperor edition on Steam, but I have only started to play it ... yesterday, on May 12! Even though I was a huge MoO 1 and 2 fan, I was an even bigger MoM and HoMM fan, so when Heroes VI and Warlock : Master of the Arcane came out, I sank into Fantasy Land, forgetting all about Outer Space.

Yesterday, after 9 days of intense Heroes VI : Shades of Darkness gameplay, on an impulse, I decided to finally try ES. The first things I did, after launching the game, was to create a few custom factions, and then, when on the galactic map, to tinker with my AMD videocard's "Catalyst Control" settings until the map got an aesthetic look I liked : wow ... it did look awesome (Visuals are important to me).

So, for the past 30 hours, I have played about 6 hours of ES.

My essential settings were : old ovoid, huge galaxy ; only one constellation ; no pirates and random events ; bigger star-systems with more planets ; normal difficulty ; custom faction (capitalist type) against 5 factions.

I have only played 60 turns, and I am ranked #2, slightly behind the #1 Sheredyn. I have 3 heroes and 625 dust.

A 4th hero has become available for hire, at an outrageous price, but I am told that my Academy is limited to 3 :

What can I do to expand my Academy?

Check out the tech on the left tree: I think it's called Futuristic Game Theory. smiley: smile And you have a few others, just hover over to read the description!

Merci beaucoup, chère Stéphanie (I'm a French Canadian.)

I am not lazy : I did hover my mouse cursor over many of the techs, but my eyes got confused by all those sophisticated tech and sub-tech descriptions. I did not look as far as Futuristic Game Theory because I assumed that the academy-expansion tech would not be that far away. You say that there are "a few others" : I must be getting blind. But running-and-hovering around in the tech-tree's labyrinth is hard on the optical attention-span.

>> May I recommend that in the Academy, where the number of the maximum of hired heroes is indicated, a tool-tip be added to inform people on how they can raise that maximum?

To link my post with this thread's topic, I can say that I played another 3 hours today, so my total is now 9 hours played. It is a beautiful game, with a great "cosmic" soundtrack : please release more content, even if you make us pay for it (It has been an awesome deal up to now.)

hmm had my computer break down and then internet went (Steam thought it was cool to not let me play games offline) 128hrs as it stands. Just got my computer back not too long ago so that number will probably jump quite a bit...

Awesome game regardless, it sucks up all my free time when I'm off work xD
