Joining Fleets in defence

Hk peeps,



Hoping someone can help, I'm not sure how fleets joining together work? I had 2 fleets of 5 ships over one planet and another enemy fleet comes in with 11 ships, ok a know about ship cap of fleets but why doesn't my two stationary fleets join together to fight as one? Is this possible?

it all depends on the cp cap. two fleets will only join as one if both of them combined would still fit into your cp cap. each type of ship has different cp points value and you can increase the cp cap by researching technologies. a practical reason why they don't join together is that they are space ships. they are very big compared to say a human and its probably hard to manage a lot of ships. also, they could have trouble coordinating and maybe their communications cant reach farther apart.

So my CP cap is 8 just gone up from 5 which you start with? And I have two fleets of 5 ships, yet I have to fight 2 battles with 5 ships in each, against a fleet of 10 which the AI puts against me, is that right? Has the AI got to 10 fleet ships that quick? Can 3 ships from one fleet join the other to help, or because they are not in the same fleet to start with there is no support? Seems to me that levelling fleet numbers or CP is a must early on if fleets can't work together!

sorry the ships have to be seperated from a fleet or have the fleet's total cp points be able to fit in with the other fleet. also, some factions, including the cravers, start off with more cp points than usual. also, i find researching cp points is more important on offense than on defense. early game i find it is better to pack tons of guns and defenses into a few ships captained by a good hero.

In the early game, there is one tech in diplo that is +3 cap, 2 in military that is +2 each, making 12CP limit rather easy to reach. Cravers also start with larger limit, they are very dangerous.



Fleets can't split to join.



Yeah increasing CP limit is very important, try to reach 12 early! But also be aware that maintenance is tied to it as far as I know. In the beginning your destroyers cost 4dust per turn, with CP limit 10 they cost 8.

if you are using harmony ships don't cost any maintenance, its also worth mentioning that after your fleet is engaged you cannot alter it until after the battle, so try to micromanage the fleets you have near enemies at the start of your turn before they are engaged.

its good to help people, in my opinion this game has a bit of a learning curve especially after disharmony.

You can only upgrade ships with new technology when they are in a owned system that is a colony instead of outpost.
