Bugged Saved Games..

I've played two games with my brother over private multiplayer, we play the game almost to it's entirety, then we will just take a break and save. When I try to reload the game it freezes and you have to task manager out. Basically I'm thinking it corrupts the save.

The second time it happened I wasn't going to save, I was just going to play through the whole game so I wouldn't get a corrupt save, it was really late game and I was building A LOT of ships (I had 13000 Industry on most of my systems), when I ended turn the game kinda froze, gave me a huge numbered error code and said I got dc'd from the server (also private multiplayer with brother). Can't load the auto saves because it freezes the game.

I've had similar problems, but I don't think they are "corrupt" as in dead. You just need to let it load, it takes a long while. The computer will look like it's frozen for 4-5 minutes, maybe even more, but eventually, it loads the game.

My saves eventually crash the game while loading. It is very much a question of when they go bad, than anything else. Hopefully the next patch resolves this.

At what game speed are you playing?

I haven't played many playthroughs (only played 116h), but I think the longer the game, the higher the probability of crashing. I've had a few crashes, but mostly on those really long games in huge galaxies. So a faster game speed, should help.

Slow speed, huge + dense galaxies. The corruption can range from 90 turns to 230ish depending on my luck. Anyways, I already posted a log in the technical forums - the thing that stuck out to me in them is that "mono" couldn't be found, which I assume is a major thing for a Unity Engine game.

That was one of the things that popped up in the logs for the game after it crashes. Here ya go. (No, not on fast. As I understand it, speeds control how much resources are required for various things - so a fast game would theoretically get corrupted more quickly, since everyone can build more stuff in a shorter amount of time.)

I believe Mono is a coding framework used for the Unity Engine, which is the basis for Endless Space.

The point is I have both vanilla and Disharmony and there was no mono.exe installed with the game anywhere on my system. Yet, I've never seen this bug that claims mono is missing. Therefore, mono shouldn't have anything to do with the game at all. So maybe when you downloaded the game Steam had a file from another game that uses this engine included that just happened to have the same file name. Thus, perhaps a reinstall might fix the issue.

Edit: I Googled mono.exe and found some old bug reports about this for the vanilla version. Here's the thread I found, in the "Archive - Tech Support" forum with the workaround for the mono bug. http://forums.amplitude-studios.com/showthread.php?17769-last-update-vanilla-ES-unplayable

Here's the specific post about the workaround.

Hello!

Thanks for reporting. We have found the issue concerning the freeze/crash for the users of the classic version when launching a MP session. It will be fixed in the next patch.

Here is a workaround:

Add the line Vanilla after the balise in the Registry.xml located here:

- PC: [lettredulecteur]:\Users[nomutilisateur]\Documents\EndlessSpace\Registry.xml

- Mac: in your User Library. Please refer to this link

You should have something like:

Emperor

0

Vanilla

If you have Disharmony this part of the registry file should say Disharmony instead. So you might want to check this file before doing a reinstall.

The registry files say Disharmony as it should. I will someday reinstall the game, but for now...well, I guess it gives me all the more reason to play through my backlog. smiley: alder

Thank you for the help, Monthar.

I prefer computers myself, since you can do more things with them. Still, I understand the appeal of consoles. I enjoy using computers, hate troubleshooting them.

i have gone past the 300 turn limit on normal speed and it quite apparent how much the game slows and becomes difficult to load.

I've played about 110ish hours myself and this only happens when I play on fast speed. I usually have on huge galaxy, and most of the time just default galaxy settings. When it's on fast this happens about turn 100 or so. And I've gotten those error codes before...but I just pick the option to continue playing :P
