Taking control of AI opponents would allow you to avoid invasion wait times and population approval issues. Also you can do more complicated and subtle things as well such as giving planets to allies, moving/manipulating problem fleets, or all kinds of crazy things. In other words you can tweak the game reality without going to war.

Hi,

The thing that people are describing for cheating is save file modification. It's relatively easy, but considerably harder than what it used to be. The developers have changed the format of the file so that now it is a solid block of text and not a pretty organized file like it used to. As some have said a lot of the things are constantly updating making fid manipulation damn near impossible, however a way around this (and makes for an interesting game still) is to modify the planets that you own. Have 3 useless Gas Giants in your starting system, make them Jungles without terraforming!

If you would be so kind you can go straight to a guide I made on this VERY subject in my signature or by clicking HERE. Thank You and have a good day smiley: smile

I had another look at the savegame file. It's still absolutely all over the place, didn't Amplitude say they wanted to tidy it up again (the way it was at the beginning)? Still waiting for that..........

Change your steam ID in a saved game, then when you load the game you are asked what faction you want to play as. Pick one of the AI factions you want to mess with, and give a few systems away to your faction. Switch everything back and resume.

As has been said already, use 7-zip. Open your save game, then right click it to edit it.

n.b post release the save game file looks a bit chaotic, but I think the devs will likely restructure it into orderly columns again when they find a moment...

When editing the save game, search for "empire index", the first one should be empire index = 0, underneath which your faction's stats appear and which you can edit. Alternatively, search for "account" to edit your bank account...

I personally enjoy taking my time building up my empire and don't mind getting my arse handed to me by the AI so I don't make use of cheats myself, but I don't care if people do - all that matters is that you enjoy the game, as long as you don't cheat in multiplayer I don't give a sh*t... smiley: smile

Basically, modding allows you to change/manipulate everything - you just need to know how to do it smiley: biggrin

I don't see why anyone would want to cheat. If your goal is to just flat out win, then play on the newbie level. Once you understand the game, it's damn near impossible to lose on the newbie level. I mean this isn't like SimCity, where the extra money is really helpful.

All you have to do is change the xml files and set the requirements for all those custom civ attributes to "1" or "01" and you can build a custom civ that can not possibly be beat. LOL

I tried that once, and it was just WAY to easy and took the fun and adventure out of the game. Now I just play with random civs and let the game roll the dice for me. I don't play at the higher difficultly levels anyway, so it's not like I need the help.

It's not about being bad or good.

Games are not about reaching a certain goal or point, it's about how you get there and when you cheat you basically skip all that progression and jump to the end. If you do that there is no way of getting that accomplishment feeling. Which is the true essence of every game. Therefore I just don't see how can someone actually enjoy the game with cheats. It just doesn't make sense.

I'd just like to weigh in on this flood of elitism in this thread. This is a game, if someones wants to cheat that is their choice and it is not really anyone else right to denigrate them because of it. If they cheat and are still having fun, then the game is doing exactly what it is designed to do, entertain. Entertainment is the goal, and it can be achieved many ways. Just cause you wouldn't have fun cheating doesn't mean this dude wouldn't either.

@OP, I did a quick google.. looks like cheat engine works and there is a ton of trainers about you could risk trying.

Not really as the point of all games is too have fun and do what you want, which contradicts what you said, Also as a modder cheats would make this game a lot easier to test on, as the save games are now super disorganized.

I guess its a legit question...

I believe the only way to cheat would be to mess with the games code or what not.

CheatEngine works with the dust, you just search for how much dust you have, make sure to search under 'float' and within a single turn you would have found the locations.

nice! but manipulating FIDS doesn't work, since it is calculated every round right?

actually, there are a lot of Games where cheating is not that bad, when you are trying to build sth. (f.e. Minecraft, terraria) or if you want to test out the game engine or just want to kill AIs smiley: biggrin

Cheating in Multiplayer still sucks like hell.

I could understand a desire for this, based off of anything above normal-mode and actually wanting a fighting chance (not invincble, just uber to start) against the AI's.

Otherwise, I don't see any reason for cheat-codes. It's a random game each time, and half of it is seeing what you do in response to the other factions. If you want to cheat, just keep it on newbie level like I do. ^_^ Only thing that makes me keep playing so far. Easy = fair is fair, but Normal = meh. Anything higher is suicide at the moment. smiley: frown

The only reason I'd cheat is in the early phase of my intro to a game, where I'd want to learn the use of each tech for example. For actual gameplay, it gets boring for me at least as I want a challenge and sense of satisfaction when I win.

That said, a variety of memory editors should work, and likely someone will develop a cheat mod done the line as always.

Here is my opinion and since everyone seems to be forcing their opinion on everyone, i will force mine onto all of you anti-cheaters.

Multiplayer cheating = VERY bad

Singleplayer cheating = Who the hell, f**king cares?

End of story.

Haha, very true.

But on a serious not, I believe the devs could implement some sort of 'cheat' trait that is unable to be assigned on multiplayer, but on singleplayer allowed for unlimited trait choice (like the current cancel->exit trait glitch at the moment), as well as unlocks access to some sort of in-game menu with instant click the win features (i.e. click to add 1000 dust, etc. as well as toggles such as unlock all research, super planet (high fids bonus), etc.)

While it may rank low on their to-do list, an 'opt-in' cheat menu/system shouldn't be too hard to add, and should please many players indeed (even just knowing you have access to cheats, i.e. GTA/Saints Row phone cheats, is satisfying).

There is no "cheats" in minecraft... It's called creative mode or spawning blocks.

There are some kind of cheats, if you count mods as cheats.

Back to topic: I would like to have some cheats just to test things out. But its not that important because you can use the easiest difficulty as well for that.
