Funny RNG is funny.

Did you end up winning?

Sadly, no. I came in second, my opponent (Hissho) won an economic victory smiley: alder

my empire at the end

Here's the settings you need (in picture because I'm too lazy to write them outsmiley: roll ) Then the seed is 935769452 (remember to un-check random seeds)

Note: it doesn't matter what faction you choose just as long as there are four.

SUPER OP Start man... lol jk

I've actually played a game kind of like this one except in my same constellation was another player that was a hissho custom. on his side of the constellation he had colonizable systems. On my side I had 2 systems and both were filled with lava and barren. He declared war on me on turn 6. I held him off until around turn 40 at which point the top player came to our constellation and killed him. After the top player killed that guy he realized I was still alive with my one starting planet. I held HIM off for 10 turns so I was finally eliminated at turn 50. It's was a funny game.

Look on the bright side, at least your start system is well protected somewhat. I hate having huge 5-6 planet systems with several easy connections to other similar juicy systems. You sir are lucky.

But in all seriousness, whenever I set my galaxy generation size to Huge, I never get anything remotely near this setup.

Sadly another example of some of the stupid oversights in this game.

Maybe in single player, but this game needs a balanced mode that attempts to remove a large amount of RNG that would screw over anyone, such as this situation.

Oh quit the whining will you - If you expect Starcraft 2 "balanced mirrored" maps, then stop playing 4X games. They aren't supposed to be cookie cut balanced maps. smiley: kiss

The only two possible ways are to make the game are completely random maps that can give you a single system, or completely balanced and mirrored. News at 11.

Yeah I like a little difference with the map. If I don't X resource I'll have to trade with an ally (or enemy smiley: twisted )

Certainly a good starting position for players who are fond of quiet backwaters and don't care if no one ever comes across them... smiley: smile

I see it mentioned here that there are two options for game setup, random or balanced mirror maps. A lot of people seem to be thinking that. I beg to differ. I believe (strongly) that there's a third way, and it's the way to go for MP (so it should be a tick box option you can switch off if you want completely random maps, which I agree can be fun sometimes, especially with people sharing cool seeds on the forums).

Have a 'balanced random' setup, which guarantees each player is at least X hops away from any other at the start (X depends on the map type, size, number of players, etc), that each start position has a mix of strategic and luxury resources within a couple of hops, that each start system plus the sum of the systems within two hops have the same value (measured on a scale where an easily inhabitable, high FIDS world with a great anomaly, a moon, and all the other good stuff is worth the most points), and that if one player is cut off from the majority of the map by wormholes that all players have access to the same points value of systems on their side of a 'wormhole wall' too.

Within that, you can still have plenty of randomness. It's a weighted average system that works pretty well in Civ games to make each start different but playable. Sure, you might be bummed that you played the Mongols (special unit/building/etc all geared towards cavalry) and there aren't any horses on your starting island, but other than that there's relatively little reason to feel hosed by the RNG without succumbing to the horrors of mirror maps.

In Civilization 5 you can set up the game to have balanced starting points. It seems to do a good job for the most part.

You can also set it up so that you have legendary starting positions, each players starting location is nice and green and covered in resources. I often enable this on the sly so that players think they have an awsome start and dont rage quite if they dont have iron next to there city.

All in all I like random maps but it would be better if they were fair too, I play sower and spread like headlice. If I started on a map like that I would almost certainly rage quit smiley: frown but if it was a fair random map then I might not I would change my play style.

It would be awsome if the game was a bit more intelligent when building maps. Yes have single backwater systems, but make them awsome systems so that players change there tactics rather than rage quiting.

In Civ 5 the "balanced start" gives each player multiple sources of two luxury resources. Each player also starts with either horses or iron near their capital, aswell as two tile bonuses.

Legendary Start gives the same but an additional two luxury types, one Strategic resource and two tile bonuses.

Both are in addition to what the map seed randomly generated, so you could recive far more than this.
