In the seven replies before mine, six were wrong / misinformation / ignorant.

That's a bad FUD ratio...

Horatio main victory conditions includes 'Wonder', though this is not listed under the selectable victory conditions. Does this imply actual, Civilization-esque wonders or is it a grammar thing that I have misinterpreted? Forgive me if this has been answered already/has a known answer in game. I only just started.

Each of the four tech trees has a final research that allows a type of victory. E.g. Endless Empire ~ once researched, you build one of the devices on five separate worlds & you get a wonder victory. This is a straight copy / rip from other 4x games, notably Alpha Centauri.

To disable it:

New Game > Advanced Opt. > Wonder Victory, un-check this box.

Notes:

They're currently laughably balanced: my top 5 planets could build each in 1-2 turns, meaning that once you've researched it, there's little chance of being beaten to that wonder victory (conversely: if an AI were to research one before you had, bad luck!).

Then again, the entire game balance is non-existant atm. Trouncing the game on serious+ is easy given there doesn't seem to be meaningful penalties on food / resource production at the higher levels. Last game I had no problems constantly being +1000 food on major worlds... without building many of the +agricultural mods

This is a fairly weak attempt at " smiley: cool " ... first easy game, most players research all the techs just to see the patterns / effects. Serious players do that & then work out which techs to rush for advantages. Hint: tech rushing is fairly central to easily stomping the AI in Endless Space, due to the bunching of certain resource unlocks.

No idea what the rest of you are smoking.

I think they are holding out on some things and this is likely one of the juicier ones.
