I'm not sure putting a narrator contest or something on would be very realistic. Most people just don't have the necessary equipment to make a good record of their voice.

What I think could have been awesome, is a one minute long, or so, cut-scene giving some general information about the race you chose. A narrator give some background information about the race, how long its been in space, if they are evil, good and so on. Example, the United Empire cut scene starts in the Emperors throne room, and the player gets some information on the human race smiley: wink
