Newbie Suggestions, as i find them

Yes, they were quiet informative.
Yes, but didn't really understand.
Read a couple then turned off the option.
Tutorials? Oh... so that was the irritating screens that kept popping up.

*blink* Seriously? Almost no-one thought to just click another tech to be researched, thus resetting the queue? If this doesn't work 'consistently', maybe check if caps lock is on?

Make the names and descriptions of things in the game understandable to normal folk. Not everybody has degrees in science and physics. It weakens the game considerably when you don't have some sort of understanding of what things are, and what they are for.

I like them. The whole diagram layout is pretty cool, showing you where to look for certain things. I don't think you even need to read it all, just find out where things go and you'll be fine.

I found the tutorial screens pretty good, it's just a matter of having the patience to read through them all.

To be fair though, I do have a lot of experience with 4X games and I actually learned just as much from the game's tooltips.

I read them the first couple of times through but then turned them off.

They are not really tutorials but a form of manual. A tutorial would take you through some examples of game play in an environment where you arent having to fight for survival (and are therefore more relaxed and focus). As a manual you should be able to pull up pages on specific areas.

I think however going to the trouble of producing a full manual or a suite of tutorials before the game has been finalised is probably inefficience at best and a complete waste of effort at worse.

My biggest gripe is the tech tree(s) - the descriptions are too poetic (almost roleplay) - understanding what most of the nodes does before you have trained the area (and sometimes after) is impossible. I dont enjoy training a skill hoping its the one i need only to find it isnt.

That little rant over - I love the game so far.

Holding left shift and clicking isnt working for me. Neither is clicking on another tech, that just adds it to the queue.

Read them at start but mostly in diagonal ... the handling of the game was quite intuitive

They provide good info, you just have to have the willpower to read through them all

I went through it and it proved to be very helpful at first. And I think it is going to help many patient newcomers in game.

Okay, now that i have played a full game all the way through and won, here are some things that i would like to see added or changed to the game.

1. Add some retreat option to the initiated battle, or even add it as one of the cards to play in battle (leaving it up to chance to see if you can get away). There was nothing more irritating that to spend the time, build some colony ships, have your exploration fleet clear a system, and then when your colony ships arrive, have them blown out of the sky by a sudden pirate incursion. But to give props to the pirates, they really pack a punch near the end of the game.

2. Also the on the topic of pirates, there needs to be some way to find our where they are coming from, and take the fight to them. Near turn 200 the pirates began swarming my galaxy and trying (sometimes suceeding) in taking my systems. Also thier fleets had gone from misqueto to B.A.M.F. in three turns. I had to turn my heavy fleets away from the opposing computer just to push them back. It would be nice to have some way to eventually kill of the irritation.

3. As discussed earlier, we need some way to change our tech tree. I have tried the shift button(yes both of them) and i wasnt able to clear my research que unless i clicked on a same/lower tech than what i was already researching. It becomes irritating when you need to change your research from colony to getting the bigger ship NOW.

4. Add more space to the academy. I wasnt able to complete the research, but i never saw anything that would increase my hero hire max past 3. Which sucks when you need an admiral or two, plus two or three good govenors to help fledgling systems.

5. Finally the tutorials... I fell alseep reading them, as did others apperently, and finally had to turn them off to play the game. Please make them either interactive, or change how it is presented so that we all dont just zone out trying to read them. I would suggest placing what they do have for tutorials put into the game manual, which is perfect for how it reads.

Yeah that tutorial definitely leaves a lot to be desired unless you like to read A LOT of somewhat blurry text embedded into an image on a computer screen.

I like to idea of having some kind of list or easy way to uncheck or change the research tree. Personally i research everything at the same level for the first part... and the shift click doest always work.

Another issue i am having is when i send out exploration fleets, and during the computers turn, they run into pirates... and it wont let me choose an action as towards manual or auto, also if there is mutliple fleet actions during the computer turn, it doesnt allow me to click on the secone or third "bubble" on the side of the screen to allow me to chose that battle either.

First, as this is my first post, go easy. Is there anyway that we can change what is being researched. I started researching on colonization tech, met some neighbors and needed to switch to combat tech, but i was already qued up and unable to change. Also any way to change right click from being the exit all button?

Thanks

My method was always to just left click another tech (hopefully lower) so that it'd remove the branch and start at 1 again :P Also same feelings about the tut, got a few screens in, then rest I've just figured out. Taken me ages for the combat to fully understand and use it to my advantage. But i still suck at planetary management :P

I only found out this a couple of days ago myself.. I was like, wow. I have lived a lie for a whole week.
