Really? Even the +25 industry bonus and the +10% industry bonus? I can't live without them.

I played for about 10 games, and now make a new one if have a lone planet in home system, and if there is 2 clear battle hero, I don't know, but u don't need 2 of them at the game start u need clear administrator or administrator-commander (mb pilot) too fast lvl it up and get admin lvling...

The starting star system and heroes should be a reflection of WHY this particular race is a potential galaxy super power. A really crappy planet and no obvious legendary members of the race makes for an unlikely situation of them rising to power...which is true in a sense of the game and not just story and so is why I tend to abandon the game early if the start is poor.

I am hoping the customisation to races (as is promised on release version) will also have options of tweaking the starting planet/system similar to masters of orion.

I don't usually abandon the game. It is when I've lost or looks like I am going to get my ass kicked in next ten turns. I go in again and try to beat the same setup. Persistence for the win!

No administrator Hero is a deal breaker. You absolutely have to get that +25 production bonus early on.

Picked other. I never abandon a system for any reason. Relaoding games is pretty much just cheating- it's no different from hex editing your dust to 10000 at the beginning of the game.

I've got to say, I don't like restarting either, usually because it's my fault and I've done something stupid that I really shouldn't have done!

That being said, I'm sure if I'm surrounded by other expansive factions then that would probly annoy me enough to consider a restart

I never restart, a game. Its part of the fun to over come limitations and completely destroy the opposition.

I had thought that lack of T-70 would be a bigger problem. It blocks the first tier missile, which is moderately inconvenient. But lack of cruisers seems more fatal. Maybe people are willing to wait longer, and explore more, to find T-70. So it does not cause abandoning in the *early* game.

To admit defeat is to blaspheme against the Emperor.

Success is commemorated; Failure merely remembered.

LOL. I intended the poll to find out which "new game" characteristics are the most annoying, so that map generation can be tuned.

I generally quit if my home world is in the center of the galaxy and there are a shitton of strings connecting to him

Other - I don't abandon a game. So my starting location isn't ideal, that's a unique challenge. Bring it on! Also in my current game there's only one system in the galaxy with Trit-70 (it's tiny, resource poor) - which I don't own. Good, make me adapt.

if i can't find Titanium-70 near by i usually leave cuz i can't make that one ship... probably doesn't matter once u get the battleships.

2nd for me would be poor home system.

Too many times have I left the game because of only one or two starting planets. All I need is a good starting zone 4 or more is my standard smiley: smile

Lacking a couple of good admin heroes on a big map can be key. Especially if not playing as Horatio!

Actually none of the options. Or maybe poor star system, but well did the same in all those random galaxy worlds in previous 4X so not really new smiley: smile

Early drop means no challenge on the other hand. Titanium-70 only is enough to drive you to expand your empire so that you have those shiny cruisers, i dont see it much as a limitation if not nearby (played huge galaxy so far, had to travel a few constellations to find some but that's part of the fun)

Pirates might be a nuisance too, but you really must be unlucky smiley: smile

Actually, a poor start system doesn't bother me all that much. Most races at least have a >6 pop home planet, which is enough to get the first few colony ships up.

What really get's me to restart is if the other systems in my constellation are poor as well, and/or very far apart.

Only game I've dropped so far I was surrounded by AI within 30 turns(maybe a colony ship mass production bug?). I had 6 systems with a total planet count of around 15 overall and none were what I would even call bearable. So yea I dropped that one pretty quick.

After I have played a few turns, I will sometimes abandon a game if it doesn't "look good". Which things would make you abandon the early game?

Nothing. I prefer not using magic time traveling abilities (i.e. save/load/newgame). Half the fun is dealing with what ever disadvantages you get. :] And then every once and a while you get some perfect systems, and just cry at how beautiful they are (and how badly you're going to smash everyone into space dust).

Other -> I typically create a very important goal early on which ties in with the problem of other races being too close.

If there's a bottleneck near a huge expanse of systems near me I try to close it immediately to avoid incursion by another race. A lot of times I may just restart the game if I can't take this system and it seems that my opponent's growth may go unchecked and overwhelm me

I there is no Titanium-70 nearby, bye-bye game. Also, if I get no heroes at all, that is bad.

What always makes me restart is a terrible starting Area so not only the starting system but everything around me.. if there is nothing worth colonizing in 3 turns radius around my starting system I will restart.

And on a huge map where I don't have a administrator hero I will restart as well on small maps I don't really mind.

@Gordon If you get no heroes at all you need to restart the whole game (close ES and start it again) seems to be a bug after you started 4-5 games in the same instance of the game (At least it happens to me this way) I recognized that while writing some threads where I had to look up the specials for all the races and then I tried it out to verify.

I know.. You still have to quit the game.

I find administrator heroes to be utterly useless and rather have heroes to command my fleet.

Even if they are admit heroes i still put them on my fleets, the bonuses aren't enough to level them towards planet use as the bonus you get for a hero that's leveled towards warfare.
