I just started playing this game today. I'm not sure if I'm seeing a bug in the alpha or more likely, there is something I'm just not getting. I started a new game. Colonized a planet in my home system. Built a colonizing ship. Researched a few technologies. I went to the next system over from my home system with the colonizer and it tells me there is a planet I can colonize but "the star system doesn't belong to me". All of the system's I've visited near my home system say that. What am I doing wrong? If it is owned by another faction, how can I tell? And none of the planets in the system appear to be colonized, how would I go about owning the star system so I could colonize planets in it?

Systems owned by another faction will be surrounded by small coloured circle with a bar above the name. The bar will fill up every turn.

This happened to me when I first started. The colonise option is on the map screen at the bottom left. Select the colony ship fleet then a new option should be highlighted. You don't go into the system view to choose a colony.

Dont make a custom colony ship. I encountered a "feature" that made my custom colony ships useless.

When you make a custom colony ship, please make sure to put a colony seed on it. Otherwise it is just a transport.

Thanks, this was exactly the problem. It was a little too late to win by then but I played it out so next round I'll know better. It really isn't obvious that that is where to look for colinization of new planets. They'll have to do something about that before live imo. Otherwise In spite of my defeat, I had a great experience and I'll definitely know better for my second attempt.



It's really polished for only being in Alpha. Can't wait to see where things go from here.
