I was wondering if there are endgame techs/units like lets say a deathstar or a bomb enough to wipe out planets in this game?

Also I was hoping that there will be a lot of neutral factions with unique technologies/units that can't be researched by your own faction and you have to either gain it from them through espionage, as a gift or trade it from them. I would like to see some space pirates and a couple of aliens from a different dimension invading your galaxy after a number of turns.

First thing no to death stars, and the second, maybe. still up to debate.

I hope there are no deathstars or destruction of planets, but neutral factions could be interesting.

They have already stated in other threads that there will not be any super weapons, like death stars. Though, i guess a mod could add them.

I am sure there will be a mod which adds them if there is a very large modding community. People like to blow stuff up.

Just my personal view, but I hope they don't add neutral factions to the game. The neutral factions in games like GalCiv2 and Civ serve mainly as just additional trading partners and roadblocks to expansion, both of which could be handled just as easily by good AI programming for the existing main factions. It's also probably easier to code the main faction AI if they don't have to deal with a third type of "player" in the game.

Also I wouldn't miss Death Stars or other superweapons like the giant robots in Civ 5. If they're balanced right, they end up being just production sinks that slow down the late stage of the game. I'd rather do the final mopping-up of a conquest game with very powerful conventional fleets of starships that are quicker to build, and easier to move around the map. Anything really useful in a strategic sense like a gadget that drops a black hole into a star, and could be deployed by any normal ship, would be very hard to balance.

Would hate it if there are deathstars or "endgame" techs. I am the type of person who stops playing civ when I discovered tanks and could easily kill my opponents. I hope they have the neutral factions though but with deeper involvement in the game other than being a hindrance to total domination and additional trading partners. Like I said neutral factions could have their unique units and techs unavailable to the main factions unless you conquer them, steal it from them or get it from them through trade

They already state no deathstars etc. However there is a science victory, so there will be a science that gives you victory, whether that is a star gate type ascension or something else I dunno.

I'm not sure if this contributes, but in terms of neutral factions ("neutral" used loosely), wouldn't the space pirates we have already count? I don't know if this is a bug in my game, but about mid-game in one of my larger galaxies with many small, isolated constellations, I ran into a few systems that were owned by pirates. They were fully populated and protected by a bigger fleet than I was prepared to deal with at the time.

Deathstar? Just a deathstar? What about the stellar converter?! I love OP weapons when I have them.

That's interesting, owning a planet. It's like the historical pirate bases that were set up in the Caribbean and the north coast of Africa. Makes sense that they'd want to settle down somewhere as a raiding base.

Anyway, if we're comparing to other 4X games, I think they'r'e missing the essential element of trade as a neutral faction. Also, neutral implies non-aggression to the player, I think. They're more like the Rebels in Total War games, or Barbarians in Civ; just a way to slow down your expansion and level up your military units.

Correct me if I am wrong but I do believe that the Horatio are a neutral faction.

I think the topic creator meant neutral, as in minor or unplayable factions.
