Hi all!

I was hoping to draw out some comments, theories, and experience on ship design as I suspect that I am doing it wrong. Anyone got any hard-earned lessons to share? (or threads to re-direct me too if my forum search skills have failed me!).

It really isn't a huge deal. Look at the hull types, each some have bonuses that let you put more of a particular set of components on them. The cruiser for example, is a good one for invasion modules and can support extra fire power and defenses. All you need to due is balance out the components on not only your ships but the fleets as well. Some hulls are highly specialized, one with a 20% to increase to weapons and another with 20% to defense. A mix of specialist and balanced vessels is a good Idea, like having a scout in your fleet or giving a cruiser or dreadnaught a sensor package.

I realize that that paragraph is a mess, not big on communication skills, but it should get you started.

there has been some debate on specializing (and respecing) vs bit of each. I would pick one and stick with it.

If you omni design, the enemy can never truly counter your design. If you specialize you have to counter what each races does, or worry about being left behind.
