No need to be hesitant about the game it's incredible, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

As for Steam once you start the game, you can play in Off-line mode if you won't want Steam running.

Have fun & enjoy the game

I was little disapointed by Endless Space.

Especially lack of tactical combat.

I know that this is still alpha but dship designs is bland and combat is really shalow.

It is similar to GC2 which good game but personally I didnt like it much.

If you like GC2 you will like this game too. Its very similar.

AI is little weak now so beware.

Game is playable tho and run rather smooth no CTD so far.

So it is GC2 bastard and not MoO 2 succesor.

Solid game but lacking.

Having Steam running doesn't bother me one way or the other, it's the egregious price discrimination on Steam that infuriates me.

Buying is not an issue, it's playing through steam only and/or needing steam running in the background. So does it require steam when playing? Oh.. still want boxed copy lol.

I am giving alpha support to another game that is one mass of bugs, you are lucky if you get 3 minutes of game play before it crashes, and that's been in alpha for nearly a year now. If didn't know better I would have said that ES was late beta.

Honestly, I was expecting much rougher from an "alpha". This game is very close to being finished, I'd say it's closer to a Closed Beta stage. All that's left is a bit of design, balances, and MP, if I recall correctly.

So being a sci-fi and 4x lover, I'm really excited about this game. I've found other space 4x games like SoaSE a little lacking (although I liked AI War) and I'd love to try this game, but my being a poor student means I have to choose very carefully which games I choose to get.

I'm all for supporting indie devs but I would love to hear your opinions on the alpha so far before I go ahead and purchase. It really does look great.

Go for it!.. At least, that's my suggestion. If you really don't like how it's going you could cancel your preorder later, but I'm pretty sure you will like it well enough to stick with it.

I had the same feeling when i started reading about it (hesitant) but from the pictures and video i was hoping it would be a mixture of SoaSE and Sword of the Stars. I love both, but they still had some spots they were lacking in.

Eh, I felt like it was a little shallow. You just built armies and expanded but there wasn't much focus on anything except building a larger army, I felt. Sure there were defensive options and such but other than the tech trees I didn't find much depth in the economy or anything other than the combat, really.

Maybe that's just my initial feel after playing the game at a friend's house for an hour or two but I just was unimpressed. I felt like my only real goal was to kill everything. I like the idea of ES having like 7 different ways to win, a la Civ.

If you tell us what you were thinking was lacking in SoaSE, we'll be able to help you.
