They may be a little more frequent now, but play through enough different galaxy maps to make sure you didn't just get a bad roll of the dice.



Personally, I would trade the risk of a bad starting position (which is easy enough to re-generate) for the potentially interesting strategic layouts. The first game I started today on the new patch generated a very interesting net of wormhole roadblocks that I'm planning to take advantage of.

I like the wormholes. There ended up being only 2 of them connecting my arm of the galaxy to the rest of space. Its making for a nice opportunity to take out the other faction in my arm and not have a 2 front war.

Right, I think that's the situation I have now in my current (new) game.



Quick question: How good is the AI about reasearching wormhole travel? I haven't played enough games yet to know. Do they research it as early as a player would?

Hard to tell how early a player would research it. It depends how much space you have in your constellation. I have seen the AI research it plenty of times. Mid-game, I have also seen the AI research warp drives and come at me out of nowhere.
