FIDS totals question

Hi,

There seems to be nowhere that displays the empire total for each of your FIDS. Hovering over the dust balance in the top left of the galaxy screen seems to show total combined FIDS for the empire but no "breakdown".

I'm a little confused as to how the resources are spent.

So, for example, if I purchase a system improvement that costs 75 industry points, where are these points spent from? Is it just a case of things that cost more industry points just take longer to build?

Also, when building ships, I take it the system industry points determine the speed at which the ship is built? There are no deductions from a resource "pool"?

If this is the case, how does the system work for research? I take it the speed of research is determined by the science points for the entire empire? If this is the case i'd like to review my "total empire science score" for example in order to get a grasp of how much total science I have and how it affects tech rate etc.

I may be missing a glaring point about how the economy works - so apologies if that is the case. I just can't find anything specific in the tutorials/manual/FAQ.

Industry is not pooled and is limited to the system where it is produced. The amount of turns it takes to build something in a system is just the total industry cost divided by the amount of industry created in that system.

They are spend from that local systems's industry point pool (which is why it can take longer in some system then others to 'build' said items) which you can see listed in the system FIDS display. Think of it as your available building capacity for that system PER TURN. (a global value for it would have little meaning\purpose)

Money\Dust is different, it's spent from your central treasury, and like wise deposited there from each system (assuming said system is profitable).

Science\Research is much like "Industry" only it is universe wide, not system specific, the global amount you have is an amount you can use per turn, if you hover over the research icon I think you will see your current global amount.

The only resource pool is Dust. The industry points are based off how much something costs. For instance when you mouse over a ship to build it will say how much it costs in total. Your system production total is how much it uses per turn when building. For instance, your system has 100 industry. A ship requires 75 and you build two. The first ship will be done in one turn because your industry is higher than the cost, then the overlap is applied to the next product.

Hopefully that clears it up, basically industry is system specific and if you look at the cost of something you should get an idea of how long it will take.

Thanks guys - informative and fast responses. That's cleared things up.

One more thing:

What relevance does the "total combined FIDS" value for the empire (shown when hovering over "dust balance" in the top left of the galaxy screen) have to how you play? Is it just a general indicator of empire size/resource wealth?

I don't really know.. never paid attention too it, probably just your total overall 'score' of some sort.
