Yup I remember E&B.

Game was fine for what it was, to bad it went under. That happened pretty quick actually.

I haven't messed around with the emu at all.

Yeah after EA acquired Westwood Studios, they wanted to cut "unnecessary projects" and consolidate their developer/design staff ASAP.

The Emulator is pretty cool. I find it highly admirable that a few former players with a couple years time were able to develop a server and tool to allow users to play the game in most of its glory.

Earth & Beyond was a great game. The only part I didn't really enjoy was the actual flying on a planet aspect (was very slow). It's too bad EA decided to nix it. I will have to check out the emulator and give it a try again...

One of the first games I downloaded and played after I built my brand new PC earlier this year (with all the latest everything in it - in all a $2500 PC) was Earth and Beyond Online. When I originally played, it was slow as muck. It'd been a long abiding dream to see what E&B would've been like if I had an awesome PC. Playing again was awesome, and playing again with a rockin' PC was awesomer.

Played it for a while, it was a nice idea and combat was fun - but overall it was a bit pants IMO.

Running around the station with an avatar was also nice (and being able to meet up with other pilots) but why did all the avatars run like gorillas?

[Edit] I should add that it was well ahead of its time in a lot of ways.
