It would be nice to start a game knowing some other races from the start; and choose the starting diplomatic standing with each of those nations(with the excpetion of the cravers ofc)

To be honest, I don't think there is a diplomacy system yet. This is something the dev team has stated. Please take a look at all the threads with diplomacy in the title, in the games2gether design sub-forum.

Good point. For example, in Total War Shogun 2, you can place a fleet on an enemy trade route. This decreases their income slightly, and adds to yours. That is an interesting idea. In ES, the fleet would have to be placed in an enemy system. That has the effect today (if appropriate) of breaking access to important resources. But, transferring some of their dust income to yours would be an interesting improvement.

Espionage heroes already have abilities similar to this.

I think the diplomacy system needs a lot of work. If I don't spam useless ships by turn 40-50 (depending on size and luck) everyone starts with a -80 to diplomacy with me. Add ONE connected system and we're pretty much at permanent war. It also doesn't help that the party being attacked cannot sue for cease fire at all. Only the attacker can - and the AI is too stupid to handle things like these currently. I've had to eliminate a human empire consisting of 4 tiny systems because they won't make peace with my 20 system empire and kept sending small raiding fleets to die against my well trained dreadnought fleets.

I want an internal trade system, if you think about it,it makes sense that you would have trade routes inside an interstellar empire. I would also like trade routes to be visble on the galaxy map so you can see who you are trading with at a glance.

I suppose, but it would give the pirates somthing to do, and a way to attack anothers economy.

What in-game effect is missing, due to the lack of an internal trade system? My assumption is that this is where your dust income is generated. It's just abstracted.

imo, the trade system needs to be completely revamped. i have not had any trading with any factions because they all instantly see you as hostile if you basically expand anywhere, at all.

i would propose it be more like other 4x games - trade is between systems in addition to between empires/players. i don't see why that isn't a good idea, esp since different planets and systems have different resources populations, etc...

all the ugprades to increase trade are useless if you cannot trade with one of the other factions - and i havent been able to yet.

any thoughts?>

Research "Relativistic Markets" on the "Diplomacy and Trade" tree. It unlocks "Alien Security" which looks like a sheriff's star.

i explore, but everytime i do and the enemy sees me, they become hostile. and im playing on easy. have found lots of other planets and players. they just instantly have a "bad attitude" towards me.

is open borders a research tech?

There is one key difference between ES and other 4x I have played: opening trade routes requires developing a tech, in the left side of the tree. Otherwise you can encounter all the aliens you want; but you won't be able to communicate well enough to set up profitable trade. Sometimes, some players are lucky and they encounter Sophons. These guys usually research the trade techs and initiate trade. Otherwise you have to do it yourself. I like this; it forces you to make another interesting decision about when to get this tech.

Cant we all just 'get along'???

No serioiusly, I would like a setting where we can have a large flourishing galaxy with trade with all and it devolves into war slowly the galaxy turns aflame with strife!

This would allow us to field large armadas and have 'pivotal' fleet to fleet battles!

I believe you have to have open borders and no blockades between you and another empire. My home world has 4x trade routes and all other planets that have routes are being utilized, this with the only faction i was able to make peace with. I agree that, more often than not, factions seem to dislike you rather than like you.

do you explore the galaxy? as it is now you cant trade with a planet that you haven't sent a ship to. in most games you will be hostile with the empires you border but not with the others. send a few scout ships/explore the galaxy, negotiate peace with distant empires and BAM! huge pay off. orgonizeing trade with the rest of the galaxy (especially if you have a small empire) is a huge bonus and a difficult thing to organize. when you are going for and expansion victory trade is harder to pull off, (and less profitable). there really needs to be more planets in the galaxy trading with you than exist within your empire for trade to be an optimal win stratagy.

before alpha #2, I'd have trade routes with other empires--lots and lots of them. But now after alpha #2, I haven't seen trade routes work, but thats may just be that I am still on my first game since alpha #2 came out.
