In fact if you don't mind, I'm going to borrow your save file, I wanna try something with it.



Edit: OK scrap part of what I said above, although they could implement it that way, the lag you was experiencing wasn't graphics related, its engine related, my tri of 6970s were running at less then 20% the whole time, with one CPU thread hitting about 80%. It could be a CPU parallization issue in the battle scene, but ether way nether my GPU nor CPU was fully taxed and I got 5-10 FPS regardless, the engine can't take the strain captain.

There is a reasonally easy to way to implement this without breaking the game, what you do is add an option on game setup to enable large scale fleets, then do one of two things:



1: Each ship in a fleet is attually a multiple, so if the multiple was 5, every ship in your fleet spawns with 4 other clones of itself, costs then remain the same, and compariable fleet sizes remain the same as well.



or 2: Increase the CP limit by a multiple, so again lets use 5, and then decrease the cost of ship production by the same factor.



Both variants would keep relative fleet sizes, costs and power the same as they are atm, just eats up more GPU and CPU processing ^^



Think of it this way, a fleet which has a CP of 1 goes up against a fleet with a CP of 2, so thats 2 to 1. Multiple that by 5, is 10 to 5, which if you then turn into a fraction 10/5 and simplify to its lowest form, its still 2 vs 1.

I'm already humming the Imperial March. I think Strikecraft support would be a must before this happens, but it would be EPIC to see this kind of mod.

Gives me hope for a Legends of Galactic Heroes mod someday, just needs to let us give out tactical formations in the same way we select cards. Of course, LoGH had battles with 100k ships, so that may be a bit much. :rolleyes:

I'm glad the devs made the battles able to handle an arbitrary number of ships per side and that the engine didn't just curl up and die with that many shots in flight. I assume that you edited a save file to get such numbers?

-ES space battles never feel epic enough with a couple of ships.

-Would also add to realism...makes no sense that galactic empires are in control of so few ships.

-Considering the engine coped that well with those 100s of ships, I'm sure it would mange fine with say a maximum of 50 ships.

wow, the engine do a lot better at managing huge fleet that i expected. I completly support the idea of flotilla of ships made by Apotheosys
