Quite frankly, I think you stacked the odds against yourself in that same.

Play a larger galaxy (the UE loves large galaxies) and play against the Sophons instead. The Cravers and Hissho are not friendly.

I like them because of that abstract look to them; very surreal. But they still piss me off. Purely because they're asymmetrical. My OCD would never let me play as the Horatio.

Just as well, though; I don't really like their lore anyway.

Thrusters. Main engines on the shuttles didn't turn them either. the attitude thrusters do. That aside, don't like the flying brick style humans always seem to get in all these type of games. Reminds me of those honking ships from Dune. But didn't like them either. Like the Hissho or Sophon ships best. Ah well, here's hoping some talent can make a mod that will give the humans Trek style ships. Need me warp nacelles and saucer section. smiley: wink

Their ships are based on Greek designs, and I actually find them much more easy on the eyes, but that's just me.

In my most recent game I am doing quite well with UE on normal vs 5 Ai's in a huge galaxy. The name of the game with UE is expansion, your home system probably isn't great so dump some +food upgrades on it, churn out colony ships and grab evey other system in sight (priority goes to more/better planet composition obviously).

Seek out the systems forming the 'doors' to your constellation - the ones with wormhole routes leading elsewhere and colonise them after the first few systems are yours, this creates a nice natural fortress for you as enemies can only come through wormholes at first. So defend these systems well.

When you are ready push beyond the wormholes and grab yet more territory, be more cautious (maybe pick a direction to expand into, instead of just growing outwards) as you will probably encounter your first xenos if you haven't already. After that just build your ships to counter what your main rivals are building and steamroll them.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think UE ships looks fine. What I have a beef with is Horatio's ships. Yes they look very nice, but I can't imagine them as ships floating around in space. But I wouldn't know how space traveling works... It's all space magic to me.

I know how they fly, but I don't find their ships much appealing at all; call me OCD but I dislike the asymmetric style.

But again, I haven't played with them much at all, so maybe if I saw their ships rendered fully on my screen I'd be less nit-picky.

Not sure if its just me, but humans seem extremely hard to play with. I played all the other factions, and they are the only ones i have a hard time playing with. I end up dieing by the time i get 5 systems up and running.

I haven't played with the Horatio and Hisshu much so I can't comment on their ships. I kinda like the Sophon's designs, and I love the Cravers' Steampunk-esque ship designs. I love Cravers most as you may imagine.

But the UE ships are just ugly. They look like buildings with giant engines on them. Which I guess kind of makes sense in a way, but still... ew.

On a side note, do you think the United Empire is a satire of the United States? If so, as an American, I find it pretty damn funny.

If anything it's the British Empire, and in particular the East Empire Company in SPAAAACE.

I personally find their ships, along with those used by the Cravers, to be the most aesthetically pleasing. Though that's mostly because I abhor the Sophons 'Space Ipad' palate and the Horatio vessels don't even look like spacecraft.

If you read the official description of the Empire, they really don't give a **** about their citizens, only caring about profits for the Empire-backed Multi-global corporations. Basically, Humans are kind of a crapsack race from a crapsack world in this setting. At least they won't eat your face right away like the Cravers though...

Have experienced similar - humans seem to have a bad start with diplomatics right from the start, especially when you start rising multiple colonies in short time... or at all smiley: neutral

They're actually quite easy to play with (in my opinion), unless the damn pirates cut off your only titanium70 source. They're going to regret they messed with me.. hehe

But here is a tip: Simply play the style they're designed/meant to play best as. I mostly play a colonization-based game whenever I play them. Also I rely heavily on my military and my economy. Well I develop a quite heavy militia at about round 15 already. While as Sophons I don't develop military before round 30-50, since I mostly use protectors to keep unwanted visitors (Pirates/Cravers) away. I can even make peace easilywith other races/faction such as Hissho and The empire.

Cheers.
