I started thinking about how the multiplayer in game chat will work. Will it have Voice over IP or just text based and will they make it so you have to encounter another play to talk to them. and also if players are using skype or teamspeak and all that how will you try and make it hard for them to get the early game advantage?

I hope it is text based chat, because quite frankly, I don't want to spend money on a mic. I already had to fork out for a new one on my Xbox...

With steam integration it would be pretty easy to implement in game, relatively speaking. Heck, you could simply invite everyone in your game to a steam chat room and use the built in voice there. Since the game is going the full-steam-integration route anyway.

Good idea! It's such a commonplace feature in so many multiplayer games that I didn't even consider it. I'm glad you brought it up.

As long as steam chat can work I'll be a happy guy. As for in-game without steam? Textbased and voice would be nice with the option to mute talking players seeing as not all games provide a mute function.

A text based chat would be nice.

I want the abilliti to link thinks in the chat. Click with shift on an Fleet if you have opened the chat to give some one a link.

He then can jump to the fleet( if allied | if he is able to see it.)

Or shift click on an research to shown someone the tech. If he opens then the tech via this link he will have the tech centered

and/or coloured. Same for planets/system and other stuff.

But if it goes to only be a normal chat the steam chat is enough.

I will not use an ingame voip cause im in a skype session with a lot of person usaually but dont play

with all of them.

I'm not a supporter of in-game voice chat. 98% of the time it's just getting on my nerves. Especially if there is no mute option.

Besides, I don't want to talk with random people.. I want to play the game, if I need to convey something to them, a simple text-chat suffices.
