FYI since latch version of game - negative dust means you start to lose your improvements, systems etc - I didnt bother reading the details because I dont let myself go negative but effectively I think you lose the most recent builds and keep losing them until you have a + balance again.

The biggest use for dust seems to be retrofitting ships. If you develop new techs you can modify the ship design. Then the "retrofit" button for the obsolete fleet is available in the fleet tab. If you build destroyers, for example, you can keep upgrading them with dust every time you get one or more new weapon techs.

In many games, when you are negative, the game will scrap some of your fleets for you, or prevent you from using them. Perhaps that is intended, or planned. Letting you go huge negative with no penalty doesn't seem right.

This is what I figure will happen. That and maybe the heros go back to the academy?

I mean I guess it's realistic, if we look at countries (like someone mentioned the usa, but we're not the only ones sadly) but... Really should be allowed to be running on such a large deficit.

You realize you can buy out ships you're constructing, right? This didn't seem to be immediately obvious to me either, but it is an option. If you look at your production there is a little dust symbol out to the right of the ship currently being built and if you hover over it it will tell you the cost to buy out something. Instant ships, and no more dust excess.

I really don't think this is going to stay as it is...it's a pretty powerful way to simply keep your taxes at 0% and go berserk on building and growth. I can't imagine being able to go tens of thousands in debt is intended to remain...all you lose is the ability to buyout and to hire new heroes

I confirm i was able to pay my 3 heroes, even at -600 no problem at all...

i think there should have an issue when we are going too low ( unable to pay heroes, defection ... lowering the rendement of planets ) after -500.

or i can just lose my AAA+ state ^^

I found that with a very heavily economy based empire I was able to produce more ships than I ever could with production, and still have Dust to spare.

Hi all...

I began my first game yersterday, yeagerly playing ^^ i'm enthousiastic. ( went to bed at 2.30am ^^ didn't see time passed by )

i decided to go in war with my neighbour and start to create some fleet...

when i saw i was at - 534 dust and losing about 50 per turn ( because of my fleet upkeep, created too much i think )

i correct this thing by reducing my fleet and changing my product to reduce my debt but...

why i coudn't go to - 10000 ?

Is dust is just there to accelerate production ( buying things before they really end ) or hire a new hero ?

or something is planned to avoid people to have the biggest fleet of the galaxy if they go negative in dust ?

Dust ist your currency. If you pay your workers, your military and your heroes with dust, but have none, there's just the problem that for you as an emperor there's hardly anyone to borrow dust from to still pay them.

So there should naturally be a limit to that.

Then you become the American government. :P lol

My population approval on every system is in the green and i have 2 rival empires at peace. I can build ships in 1 turn still also. Cannot judge for heroes because i never hired any and since i have negative funds cannot hire any. Which seems to be the only downside so far is the inability to hire heroes.

Doesnt the negative dust (and presumably an inability to pay for your heros and building mean you are taking a hit in popularity and efficiency?

Well i went down to -1022 dust without any negative effects that i can see still. Seems like it could be a bug or something because you would expect there to be negatives for being so far in debt, but my colonies are still booming just fine.

What the OP said is that he should have been at a disadvantage from such a negative debt.

I've managed to get to about -900+ currently in my game with no real negative effects that i can see. i'm still ranked 1st in score by a couple hundred points. If i hit a limit i'll let you know what it is. (i currently don;'t have any heroes though so no idea if they would abandon me if i had them :P.
