I find it a little frustrating that some games I will be playing as a faction and of my starting three heroes not a single one will be from my faction. I have no problem with hiring heroes from other factions but I feel like a cross-faction hiring like that would be more rare would it not? I think at least the starting 3 heroes should be from your faction as you are just starting out across the stars and your faction is really all you have had contact with.

I think there should be a large pool of homegrown heroes to choose from and a random chance each time a hero becomes available to hire it would be from another faction but the majority of options hero-wise should be from your faction.

Many topics have been made about this.I think heroes should all start from your own faction and maybe later alien ones come.I think the Cravers and Horatio should not have any from other factions.

I don't disagree - I did find it a bit strange that the hero pool was so interspecies. More "homegrown" heroes with more combinations of "professions" in each race (Possibly add hero race specific "perks" you can choose during level up.

Possibly even a hero designer at some point - similarly to the race designer feature. It'd add a nice additional layer for the people who play custom races, not to mention the "game story thread" players. (AARs?)
