I've never really been a fan of these types of games because of the naturally slow speed of turn based games. Unlike most games Endless Spaces seemed to captivate my imagination in such a way that the previews reminded me of a more complicated Flotilla game. After playing a few games in the beta and a few after the game has released I realized that this game kind of just throws you out there. I understand that there is a tutorial you can turn on but it's such a inefficient device used for introducing a new player to the game, it's about 5 pages and then it just throws you out into the galaxy without much information on how the game really works.

I'm unsure of whether or not this was intended, but it wasn't a very pleasant introduction when I found out that I was able to only have one type of upgrade on each planet, and that all the improvements on every system was actually making my civilization angry.

Either way, I just think there should be a little more detail in the tutorial.

Other than that, great game, I love the time I spent figuring it out, but it may not be that enjoyable for less hardcore gamers.

Civilization stye games (I call em civ games as microprose pretty much made this genre) are in depth games that require some time and patience to get the hang of. The tutorial gives you enough of the basics the rest will come with studious use of tool tip information and consultation with the game manual.

The problem with making the tutorial too deep is that the player may become overwhelmed by what he is being shown.

I have made a basic tutorial for ONE aspect of the game and without getting too much in depth it is 20 min long you can see it in my signature.

The game has so many concepts that a full blow tutorial would take a few hours the one currently available is good enough to get you started imho.

I think the only thing the tutorial didn't help with was the importance of approval. Otherwise it covered pretty much everything, though most of the things would have been easy enough to figure out by myself (as someone that is fairly new to 4x games).

Indeed the approval system looks fairly simple but the need to balance all its aspects is most likely the main thing that newer players might have issues with.

I went to you tube myself. I am a newbie, and this is hard to pick up either way. It would be nice to have a system in place that says, "Hey dummy!, try [.......]" or maybe some sort of feedback. That would all be hard to do. I the meantime, I appreciate those that have done tutrials of their own.
