[Discussion] Ways not to show (at a given time in a given system) useless buildings

Played my first game last night. I think this game really has potential and could be a sleeper hit, but in it's current state, I could not in good conscience recomend it to friends until some patches/upgrades are released. But, I think it's great we get to put input into the design, so here goes:

One of my biggest problems was that so many icons show in the system upgrade box that do nothing for that system. Like giving tiny/small planets a pop bonus, but there's not tiny/small planets. Or one that has a resourse bonus to certain planet types, but there's no planets of those types in the system. Or how about the one that gives bonuses to moons, but there are no moons in that system. The list goes on and on. The box is already cluttered with so many icons as it is, please cull down the ones that are useless.

Also, the system upgrades that list the planet types that are upgraded often actually block the view of the planets/systems. So you have to pull your pointer off the icon; memorize the planet types; put your pointer back on the icon; hope you remember what planet types there were and then hope you analize the upgrade correctly.

Why not just have the planet types that are actually in the system listed in green text when those type of system upgrades are available to build? It would make things so much quicker and easier to see at a glance.

Perhaps I missed it, but some kind of icon or symbol needs to be show when there's a possible upgrade for a planet to be done, instead of having to dig down to each and every system/planet to check.

Thanks for allowing us to give input so this becomes the incredible game I know it can become.

I was thinking the same thing: items that can't benefit the system at the moment at least need to be moved to the end of the list and dimmed.

Greyed out I'm hopeful for at the very least; not showing them at all in the first place would simplify things so much more from the get-go though.

I agree with the improvement suggestions. Something needs to be done in the UI to cut down on the busy-work that goes into building improvements.

Yes, a game like this really needs to keep the micro management from getting into micro tedium & confusion. But it looks like they are well on their way to doing so.

I can't wait till a patch (or three) when I can give the "green light" to my friends to get this too. smiley: smile

"[CDR_MIKHAIL], END YOUR DAMN TURN!"

"HOLD ON, I'm trying to figure out what to work on next!"

- the annoying aspect of an otherwise very fun multiplayer match last night.

Overall I was very impressed with how smoothly the multiplayer went, we got to turn 80 in just over an hour, so it was just poring through these improvements working out whether they would actually benefit this system that slowed it down.

Yup Mikhail, I'm guessing even more will be improved hopefully; perhaps even a chart/graph with red/green text showing exactly what benafits each upgrade you mouse over will do if you build it.

I agree with this as well, though I feel like most of the improvements are just a waste of resources or way too situational to ever be worth it.

After one game, I was not sure if most I was building was helpful or useful most the time, so I can't comment on how effective they are. So many icons, many of which the picture on the icon did not "click" in my mind what it was suppose to represent, so I had to read them and reread them over and over. Then reread the ones that do absoulutely nothing and wonder why they are even included in that system's options to build.

I would suggest to have them outlined by red rectangle with a check box option not to show at all.

I agree with these UI changes. It's also quite annoying to have to cycle through planets with moons because I don't remember which ones I had already explored.
