Wondering if there will be an ETA/update/post regarding modding. While I recognize the challenge the team had due to the nature of .assest compression/storage method, I was hoping the players could have this potentially addressed by the developers. Currently people are modding based on essentially hacking the asset and due to ackward nature of this (perserving string length and byte size) we are extremely limited with what we can currently mod. Both Davea and Hupailija have managed to create some rather in depth changes to how heroes are handled and their abilities. However, both are limited to the changes they can implement. Myself, I been experimenting with the combat system, having it due strange and possibly horrible things and refrained from releasing it due to the breaking nature. Many of my ideas for combat while theorically possible are infact impossible to string perservation restrictions.

Having the ability to mod a game greatly improvs the community as it allows people to get in and breath nw ideas (or recycle old ones). The entire premise of this game, one of the things that drew me to it was the notion of games together... What else is that but opening the game up modders? I'm not asking for a slick user friendly interface, I'd settle in a heart beat for a simple extraction compression tool that allows just to escape from this frustrating byte size petservation, have you ever tried counting white spaces? Guh.

Do the developers feel this is an important goal and should it be prioritized?

Well we already can mod the game, just not by much.

The devs have come out and said that modding is important to them. There is a thread or two in the Modding sub-forum where they say as much, and that we will get fulls modding tools eventually. I just don't think it's a high priority for them right now, and I'm sure they have a whole list of things they need to get done sooner. Bugs and issues to fix, new features that we've voted on that need to be implemented (then bugs issues that those features may cause), the factions from the competition, and so on and so forth.

I agree, it's already possible to mod the game slightly I believe and the Devs have embraced the idea of modding, so now all we need to do us wait smiley: smile

True, I'm sure all of you who've been working on modding can do anything you want. I personally, though, wouldn't mind seeing some easier ways to mod things like Heroes, planets, and so on, as looking at that massive list of characters starts making me cross eyed after a while.

Alas, I think I must turn in some of my nerd status, being unable to handle that...
