The creation of MP leagues and ladders which classify players according to their skill could be fixed by adding a simple in-game option. Only games wich are played from beginning to end are taken into account and when you don't want to continue to play there is a diplomatic option to surrender/capitulate(give all systems to the player who is the reason for your surrender; or divide your systems between the players you're at war with).

Please share your opinion on the problem and vote in the pole.

I do see your point Nosferatiel. Simply, this is the conclusion:

1. A capitulation/surrender option means that either you give all your systems to the player who causes your abort or your systems are divided amongst the players you are at war with (this must be voted for or decided by devs).

2.Your profile gets points for every game you play from beginning to end(depending on your score in the scoreboard), if you disconnect an AI takes your place(you can't reconnect), if you disconnect you receive no points.

3.You receive points depending on your score when you capitulate/surrender or when you win, this will be the motivation.

If someone sees any kind of gap in this simple idea please don't hesitate to write. Also you have any improvement in mind please write your idea. Vote in the pole and share your opinion.

What if someone disconnects, has an AI take over, and then the game is played to completion?

How is that player rewarded/punished?

Yes, a disconnected player would pretty much be taken over by an AI and the player would either receive no points (in the case that every player who plays a game to completion receives points, depending on the scoreboard) or lose points.

If you lose points by completing a game on the rear end of the scoreboard, but don't lose points by simply quitting, then as a ladder player you would not continue any game on the losing end.

Wouldn't it be more effective to state that everyone in a game gets points for playing through, it just increases with scoring rank?

That's the problem with matchmaking or ranking matches/ ladders, how do you treat the abuser? just increasing score if you win or loose that 's a good idea, if you punish someone who has disconnects due to his ISP , well ... that's no good , but counting EVERY game and average it over all played games thats something like that.. smiley: wink , btw whats with regular disconnects? hot seat , anyone ? IDK if you can save in an MP and load it again ?

what does the other player get if the enemy disconnects? is that an automatic win ? so disconnect equals lose , you can't give the other player nothing , because then you'll have loads of players disconnecting if they're losing, do deny the enemy the points.. another abuse possibility

Interesting train of thought. But if you give the player who went against the disconnecting one something, you could easily exploit this by setting up an inactive player on a second computer with a second game, playing against that one, maxing out your score, then having him disconnect (or even simply defeat him) to get your score.

Boring, but doable. So there should be a minimum activity requirement, too.

3 different "pricing" schemes , you get zero points for disconnecting, 1 point for losing, 2 points for a victory, and from that an average over all games.

A ladder is a good thing, but to support it you need a solid ground ( lol ). As for now the only thing a ladder would show is who has the better hacks and exploits.
