The Odd Benefit of Using Missile Weapons

For those who haven't noticed, there is a weird side benefit to focusing on missile weapons.

Because of the slow firing rate of missiles, you are always guaranteed to go into the next phase of combat. This means that you can use the ENG card and repair modules to keep your fleet healthier than just the repair out of combat.

An odd benefit, but a good one to use if your focusing missiles.

I attribute the healing after the enemy is dead to getting the "long" enemy ship death spiral animation.

I have seen where I have used a few missiles, but mostly lasers, killed the enemy in the Long Range Phase Tick 2, gotten the "short" animation enemy ship blow up, the enemy ships clear the screen, the missiles go are continuing to off into space... Long Range Phase Tick 3 is about to occur, but doesn't, rather it is right to the report phase.

So, when I know, I am going to win in a landslide, I always pick Nano Repairs as my second phase, and hope for the "long" enemy ship death spiral animation, because I know that it will just get me to the start of Phase II for free healing!

Missiles + enough defenses to holdout for the one phase + the option to cast repair mid-phase is quite fun post laser-nerf.

You don't even need missiles for that.

I also pick Nano Repairs as second card. When the enemy has the biggest ships available there is a big chance that you can get into the next phase because of the long animation.

This way I have been able to defeat 60+ fleets in 1 turn without losing 1 ship.

I suppose if your focusing missiles, fire for the first round then retreat!

Skirmishing is really, really annoying! but is still a valid strategy.....bloody snipers!

I like missiles mostly because there are few things more satisfying than watching my fleet unleash a single horde of missiles that move inexorably across space and annihilate the entire opposing fleet in the first round.

Am I wrong to enjoy that so much? :-) ..fritz..

You retreat in the second round, it is not hard to figure out.

Unless it is an offensive retreat.... then you fire in Phase 1 - Tick 1. And you warp away Phase 1 - Tick 2.

But will the missiles land before combat ends?

They should land in the closing sequence.

Not if the enemy totally obliterates your fleet.

Also, nano-repairs in the 3rd and 4th phase trigger and repair your ships even if the phases are skipped, so no, that's not a secret benefit.
