I'm sure this topic has been covered before, but I couldn't find it.

I've just been wondering... why was the decision made to have everyone's turn at once? I'm not asking for it to be changed, I'm just curious about why it was done instead of traditional turn movement. Was it because it was easier to do with the game engine? Or was it done because turns would start taking too long (I can imagine the hell of having to wait half an hour for everyone else to finish their turn before you can go)? Or was it because they tried both options and decided the parallel turns were more fun/interesting?

I am not on the dev team, but I am pretty sure it was to focus on multiplayer. In pure turn based multiplayer, with 8 players, you snooze for 10 minutes and play for 2 minutes, then snooze for ten, play for 2, etc. With simultaneous turns, at least there is less dead time.
