Possible Bug with XP gains

My apologies if this issue has been posted previously.



I noted some inconsistencies with experience gains, both the amount gained and when. So I began experimenting with it.



-The amount of XP gained after combat varies. I realize there are many factors that go into this number (Hero, Attacking/Defending fleet size, luxury resources, etc...). In one case the same defending fleet (mine) was attacked by hundreds of enemy fleets per turn of the exact same make-up (eventually 12,186 fleets before I terminated the experiment). For 90.6% of the attacks the XP gained was 7 points per combat. The remaining 9.4% varied between 4 and 22 points. For this experiment I only counted fleets that had the same exact make-up. This inconsistency made my next experiment difficult.



-If two of my fleets of the exact same experience level and make-up, attack AI fleets of various make-up, the amount of XP gained is confusing. Here is a sample:

-MyFleetA(87,187Mp) attacks AIFleet1(32,563Mp) =XP gained 7

-MyFleetB(87,187Mp) attacks AIFleet2(27,878Mp) =XP gained 11

Next turn

-MyFleetA(87,187Mp) attacks AIFleet3 /w Hero(45,106Mp) =XP gained 4

-MyFleetB(87,187Mp) attacks AIFleet4(11,965Mp) =XP gained 7

Next turn

-MyFleetA(87,187Mp) attacks AIFleet5(11,965Mp) =XP gained 11

-MyFleetB(87,187Mp) attacks AIFleet6(32,563Mp) =XP gained 4



After 48,000 combats like this, I have been unable to figure out how XP is calculated. I have attempted to control for all factors possible, but the numbers still remain inconsistent.



-The combat that results in a ship gaining a new level, grants x1.5-x2 XP, but the very next combat the ship completes, results in zero XP gained. The next combat after that returns to the normal XP gained.



-When an AI attacks with a stack of fleets, the XP counter goes up after each combat until the last attack the AI makes. The last attack the AI makes results in what appears to be zero XP gain. When the player advances to the next turn, the ship/fleet that got attacked will now reflect the XP from the final AI attack. The exception here is that if the player attacks after the AI finishes. After the player attacks the AI, the ship/fleet will reflect the XP gained from the AI's last attack, but not the XP gained from the players attack until the next turn.



-I now have a fleet of seven awesome ships. Each has 99,896xp.

Not trying to be a trouble maker, but please clarify what classifies as a "bug" to you. Personally, I don't care where it gets posted, but a glitch with how the program calculates experience gained, is a bug to me. I'd like to know your interpretation of "bug" so I can post in the appropriate spots in the future.

You have found that XP awarded varies between 4-22 points. Why does this seem to be a bug? Many games award a random amount of XP.

he's also said that every other combat results in no experience gain at all, that sounds like a bug to me





The variation in XP gain you're seeing otherwise might indicate MP has nothing to do with experience gain - have you looked at command points destroyed instead?
