Modding Function Compilation WISHLIST

As per discussion with Florian (ThorTillas), I approached several other of the more prominent modders in the community (several similar threads have recently started since I began this - idea thieves smiley: lol.png" alt="smiley: smiley: lol" title="smiley: lol" />)



Davea - Community Balance Mod + Other mods,

Ail‎ - AI Mod,

Pleasure ‎- Babylon 5,

Hupailija‎ - Endless Dream



Additionally I attempted to noted as requests by many other modders‎ as I saw them come up in the forums. This thread summarizes their requests for specific functions within the game; note - it is not a wish list request thread. I welcome any additional requests as long as they are specific examples of functions and not I want this or that. Neither am I approaching topics such as triggers, modelling, texture or bug fix requests (all big requests by the community in general), as the developers are already well aware of this and working towards these goals for the community. The goal is generate community driven requests for LoiCus ToDo list.



The List:



The ability to reference higher math functions such as truncate, modulo, exponents & square root etc



The ability to use math-operators in Requirement-Paths'



The ability to create/preserve (cleaner) variables when computing/comparing

Clarification: variables maintain complete decimal fraction value when computing, however when the game calls on them to apply the values are rounded to the nearest whole, requiring work arounds to maintain the fractional value



The ability to modify attributes outside of class hierarchy (other players empires, systems, fleets, ships and planets etc)

Clarification: a prime example of this is the hero ability 'Tactician' as it targets enemy fleet's accuracy



The ability to determine galaxy wide values for a specific variable

Clarification: total number of a specific resource existing in the galaxy, the number of teir X planets etc



Ability to create what is currently defined as Empire level values at different levels with the same effect but uniquely defined at that level

Clarification: MaxCommandPoint/FleetWormHole is defined at the Empire level and cannot be redefined with unique values at ClassFleet or ClassShip level



The ability to check InOrbit for friendly ships and apply a localized effect to that StarSystem

Clarification: add a descriptor on the system which is based on the system name and then add the same descriptor on the fleet which orbit around this system (Space Stations)



The ability to define a "Population" attribute to determine how much population is removed from the building system

Clarification: This one might already be on the list



The ability to determine starting systemimprovement(s), and which system improvements are built on colonization



Ability to modify influence functions such as generation rate / radius / source



The ability to create tooltips from outside the normal class hierarchy

Clarification: Hero abilities applying at an Empire level tooltip etc



The ability to create dynamically updating tooltips based on changing variables

Clarification: Correctly apply the dust gain to effects such as Careful Sweeping which is dependent on population



The ability to define when a weapon can attack based on combat phase or variable

Clarification: Restrict lasers to only fire during melee phase

    • This would give another useful option when modding. I just want it. smiley: smile











I will continue to add to this thread as I come up with new Ideas/requests.

Ability to add our own ship models and weapon effects

Weapon effects might be easier to allow; lots of requests for "real beam graphics".



Affect hero availability (for example, 90% of heroes available to a race are from that race; guarantee one admin hero)



Affect use of heroes by AI ("specialize" fleet hero vs system hero, affecting where they get assigned and what abilities they choose)



Ability to have the AI choose a specialization for a system, for example examining the empire and choosing certain planets as forge planets, and then setting star system improvement priority based on that flag

The fact there is no discussion on this topic is why I posted my suggestion in the modding forum, Davea.



The reality is few modders are going to be perusing these forums as they are focusing on modding and most other players are not interested in mod specific suggestions because they have no idea or interest in modding. Also it seems to me that those developers who deal with modding specifically benefit from suggestions about modding being concentrated in the modding forum, as it makes it easier for them to find as well.





I would highly suggest not forcing modders to post mod suggestions here as it is not constructive IMO.
