Building modules/improvements for other colonies

I would like to see a research option that allows the empire to create improvements than can be transferred from one system to another (modular). It is done today as a way to increate interstate commerce and has each area have their competitive advantage. I just don’t like my colonies that are designed to be researchers spending 12 turns creating something that my colony that is builders can do in 2. However, I can see where it would take traveling time to get to the other colony. Also, if it gets blockaded it would be lost. So, it has an inherent danger. Also, it will even out the abilities of the other cultures that get so much money. They can just buy everything. It does seem to balance tings off.

I thought about it from a different angle as well. I started thinking about what we do today. As in, this game is supposed to be about the future (not specifically ours), but if we currently build things and transport them across state lines why wouldn’t we in the future as long as we are in the same faction/country/union?

My first post, so I'm sorry if I did something wrong. I tried to read everything.

Slightly renamed the suggestion.

I'm not sure it is so similar. If you build e.g. a fusion plant, you need a fundament, lot's of energy lines, general infrastructure, cooling etc. that you can't just drop by a ship.

Gameplay-technical it is an interesting idea, although I have the problem that it is very close to the pilgrims' affinity of colony evacuation.

I can think of the shows that we have here in the USA. I believe it is ice road truckers or something like that. Every year people drive a lot of trucks to areas in northern Canada and Alaska that cannot be access until the winter because they create ice bridges/roads. They create drills, power plants, housing and everything you can think of modular to start drilling as fast as they can.

However, off of your idea of infrastructure, a good compromise would be to have the people on the other end build the infrastructure. Thus, two places are in use constructing. However, the mainstay would be external.

BTW, I tried to play as the Pilgrims once and it didn’t end too well. I died fast and didn’t learn anything about their culture other than not my style of play. I’ll have to try again and see what that colony evacuation is…

If you've got a colony ship in a system, you can build a special colony ship that evacuates all buildings and most of the population out of a system that are installed in the next system you evacuate them to.

A slight variance of this idea:

There could be a kind of "manufacturing module" for ships that can be filled by a certain amount of smiley: industry on any planet with a certain building on it and can then use this resource to help other systems build something. Lets say, you fill up the ship with 500 industry on your production system and fly it to a new system, where it spends 50 of it per turn to the building queue. When it is empty, simply return to the first system to refill it.

For the OP, i agree with Nosferatiel, most structures must be implemented in some way. Maybe a small choice of buildings could be transferred directly, for most of them you may build the components somewhere but would need installation/commissioning time and effort on site.

This thread is the origin of discussions about building improvements for other systems.

Other threads about this have been archived:

Feel free to post here about this topic here and inform yourself about the variations the threads listed above have already discussed, but don't open new suggestion threads for anything alike. smiley: wink
