Cinematics would you buy them as DLC?

So I am hoping many of you here have played Alpha Centauri...which honestly rather than civ is what this game reminds me of most (I never actually played MOO2...yes I know heresy). One of the best parts of that game was the incredibly awesome cinematics for wonders and game endings. I STILL play the game, only know I choose wonders based on a cinematic I haven't seen in awhile and want to see again (watching them on you tube feels like cheating). I understand that time and budget makes it not likely to happen at release...but honestly I would five a DLC price for good cinematics for endings (different ones based on the ending) and maybe for new eventful builds (we don't seem to have wonders in the game but maybe the first time you build a new ship type...the building of a dreadnought should be a time of great faction celebration..or colonize a new planet type?).

As an avid RPG player along with strategy gamer I'm big on what some people would call flavor...its what separates a fun game for me from an exercise in use of a spreadsheet ala sword of the stars)

You consider SOTS as a spreadsheet game? Huh, i have commonly had battles determined by unfortunate luck on either side, but never a calculated victory.

Considering how I pretty much never watched the cinematics I'd say no (except for Clinical Immortality's video: "get off my land you peacekeeping son of a-!"). I do, however, love the quotes for each technology researched. I don't think you'd be able to capture the charm of having the faction leaders read them though, considering how the empires in Endless Space are all faceless.

Cinemtaics are 1 watch only. After I see them I just go Esc Esc Esc.

Sigh I simply do not understand how more people don't enjoy them...especially in AC they were so pretty...but then I'm an RPG and a story player more than a straight European strategy gamer I guess (German strategy games for example are soo not fun and if you took the flavor stuff out of this game I would loose all interest).

Yes from the bit I have played of it I consider SOTS a spreadsheet game much live eve...and that's the main reason I can't stand either of them...

Because every second I am forced to watch some cinematic (which, despite what you might think, had pretty much nothing to do with the game world in Alpha Centauri) is a second I'm not playing the game.

Cinematics in Alpha Centauri were just art pieces, not something exploring the world further. You had to read the story interludes and the technology quotes to really grasp the world.

Ug do I disagree they did help explain the world and yes were they such great pieces of art. Sigh guess it is because I come from books and RPG's. Story is incredibly important for me. I mean take out all the story from AC or endless space...and you might as well be playing sword of the stars...

Sure you had to read the story interludes (which I did and still love) and listen to tall the technology quotes (they also were incredible), but how can you not like this I mean not only is it a wonderful peice of Art like you say but it encapsulates what the Gaians are about and really the earth based environmental movement so well...

Then rather write a text story than use limited resources on animations, which are mostly useless without context.

...or just go buy a book.

hmm ok ok I'll stop but I really do think that the visual cinematics add a great flavor and being a tbs this is supposed to be immune to the crazy speed and non thinking issues of games like COD and battlefield and even the RTS games like Starcraft. (Lord how I hate all these games). It pains me to see the loss of story in these games, especially since I expect RPGs will be next. Even games like mass effect and dragon age have less cinematics and thus story than older RPG's. Gameplay without story is wasted...

To answer your initial question: No, for sure not. Lore is not important for me, and for cinematics I look up some Blizzard or Bioware stuff on Youtube. Please spend all resources on balancing and evolving the "spreadsheet game", as you call it.

edit: You don't play chess, do you?

I like lore, but i can understand people just wanting to play without it.

Maybe if lore was only included in scenarios and a type of in game encyclopedia?

I do like cinematics too, and except for the battles, the game does lack of that kind of stuff. No in-game cinematics, no ending one either... very efficient game, but lacking a bit of the maybe-not-essentials.
