When I press the "Guard" button in fleet command, that fleet blocks entire system. All alien ships are stuck.

And what if I want to prevent other race's ships only from entering my empire's space? I.e. north direction, for example, blocked, but south is free to go.

P.S. Sorry for my english.

As far as I know right now, the only workaround for trapping another race in your system would be to improve relations with them. With Peace/Open Borders, they get to bypass blockaded systems. That only keeps races at cold war status and war status from going further. Other than that, I'm not sure what else to say. It'd be nice to be able to say that ships can only not come in my space, but any ships in my space can leave, but selecting specific strings to block may cause issues as you get systems that have numerous strings connecting to them.

This is as far as I know, though. I'm not sure if things have changed, as I haven't had time to play in a while, and things may change tomorrow when the game is fully released.

Why do you want to block only certain directions? This seems very complicated. I can only think of one reason. If there are ships of one AI inside your space, and you are about to attack them, you may want to let them out without letting more in. This way they "might" be gone from your space without wasting effort to destroy them. Is there another reason to do this?

Reason: do not want ANY alien colony in my "branch" of the galaxy.

So, I don't want other race's colony ships to enter my space, but I want them to be able to leave to where they came from.

Because blocking enemy fleet leads to diplomatic misunderstandings -> war.

so a reverse blockade? ships can't enter, but they can leave?

How do you intend to stop a FTL ship from going to a system?

No. They can enter, but they can leave only in specific direction(s?).

Like they can go North and East, but can not go to the South and West.

Why not just destroy them? the diplomatic repercussions are not that bad.

Destroying a PEACEFUL colony ship???

And what if women and children are on board ??? (And I think, they ARE on board. Excluding Goratio race.)

If you want no other ships in your space, all you can really do is stay at cold war status with everyone. Then, as your influence region grows, that will cut these other ships off. Any string and system under your influence, ships at cold war status cannot pass through.

I still think it would be too much of a hassle to have to select strings to cut off when you set a fleet to intercept. And, again, even if you could, there's no way to stop fleets that you are at Peace with, have Open Borders with, or are in an Alliance with.

I guess your point is from the roleplaying aspect, you would like to let colony ships and scouts leave peacefully without allowing other ships of the same race to enter. That seems reasonable, at least that does not require the user to set the "intercept" flag separately on each lane. If your region of influence covers the empty systems you may have left inside your borders, no colony ship can setup a colony there; but still, the scouts and colony ships wandering around could be distracting. Currently it is annoying that these scouts can create blockades, for example.
