I was just wondering if there might be any chance of introducing crazy space monsters that can appear out of nowhere. I feel that the space pirates are fine, but they get annihilated late game when you colonize everywhere. I enjoy fighting against something other than the AI races and was hoping we could have inter-dimensional space monsters that appear from time to time. None of the monsters would be able to invade a system, but blockading it would be fine.

Things like a giant crystal, hydra, etc would be nice to see as well as other anomalies.

The monsters/anomalies guarding (usually quite good) systems/planets in games such as Moo2 and Botf were actually quite interesting. It's certainly worth spicing the game up a little, but perhaps later on in DLC / Patch once the core game play has been fleshed out?

I see this as fleshing out the game a little more though. Having monsters that can still come around whenever unlike the pirates really would change some situations. It would be nice for stronger and stronger monsters to appear late game where you would really have to dedicate a fleet or two to destroying it. Maybe even providing buffs for a certain number of turns for destroying mythical monsters that appear would be nice as well.

ex. I defeat a mythical space hydra that randomly appears. I get a buff of +5% gold income for 5-10 turns.

I would like the occasional obstacle/event in the game based on the old space monsters, but I would rather have them more in SF and less in fantasy style.

Core gameplay in this case is about the underlying systems that make the game work. Elements that affect those systems would and should come later.

Or to severely mis-quote a professor of mine, if you can't make killing one goblin fun, then it doesn't matter how cool your dismemberment system is.

Perhaps like a fleet from an ancient race re-appearing randomly and you having to take them down. They'd be stronger than pirates, but they wouldn't replenish. once the fleet was gone that's the end of that event.

Love the idea of space monsters. Though I do see that it's a lot of work on animators and so forth, I think it's great.

I would like them as random events, but not just to kill, but you can pick a decision on how to deal with them, and have it affect you.

i imagine that the endless should have been able to build traps of some sort, perhaps massive moon monsters that blockade your system after a scan or sweep?

An old dormant defensive satellite/station which wakes up above remnants of an endless world.

An automated ship/probe send into deep space by the endless with .

I moving cloud/nebulae this turns out to be sentient and consumes worlds it meets (though we'd really need system/planetary defenses for this to be viable)

The possibilities are endless, especially when coupled with other yet-to-be-implemented features smiley: smile

This could be alot of fun and throw the occasional wild card into the mix, Pirates act a bit like this already (though I would prefer they were playable instead). Anything to add more depth and throw a few curve balls into a game of ES will make, well literally full of Endless replayability and fun! +1smiley: approval

I would also like the to sea "monsters" just guard highly value systems. So a race to beating it and claiming the system can occur.

Space monsters were a very fun element of Moo2 and I would love to see modern take on this kind of game element. Though I would guess the developers don't have many animators on staff. smiley: smile

I support this too. It's nice to have them guarding some great systems that will annihilate you in early game but you can defeat them in mid/late game. Then the race is on to see who gets there first. This was a great feature in MOO2.
