It was bothering me for some time that Destroyer class ships of United Empire looks much less military then Corvette class ships. And at same time Colonial ship looks almost exactly like Destroyer.

Corvette class:

Destroyer class:

Colony Ship:

But after checking most recent G2G vote videos I noticed that in-game Corvette actually have Destroyer model and wise versa.

Huh...I hadn't noticed that. I wonder if this is actually a bug or if the people at Amplitude decided at the last minute that the more 40k IoM ship prow looked better as the first combat ship players had access too.

I welcome this change. The 'Space Ironclad' as I've taken to calling it looks much better and more combat-oriented than the floating amalgam of mailboxes that is the current destroyer.

It seems that when they were designing these bonus skins they decided to switch the Corvette and Destroyer models, to make things fit better, I assume. So there's no real issue, the devs are just tweaking the game.

Moved to the proposals section (remember me to remind Davea, where that is... smiley: stickouttongue ), renamed title.

I'm sorry to say this, but the picture up top of the Corvette just seems to me like a more maneuverable design. The Destroyer just looks slow and plodding in comparison, like the civilian transport, but with a little less weight.

Nosferatiel might have to come in and correct me (or any of the other scientists on the forums), but I don't think design of the ships matters that much in terms of maneuverability in space. All that really matters is the size of the engine, to push the higher mass around, and whatever additions are there for changing course, like port or starboard thrusters perhaps.

The things that matter even in space are all bound to the mass-distribution, how much force can be exerted by the engines and where that force is directed from where.

Take a stick and lay it on the ground. Give it a shove at both ends in opposite directions, it should turn. Try the same in the middle, it won't do anything. Add weights to one side of the stick, do exercise one again and the light side of the stick will change direction a lot faster than the heavy side.

Maneuverability in space is just a question of engine power and mass-balancing of the ships.

I, for the record, am a physicist... but thank you for deferring to a scientist that you knew of already.

@Nosferatiel: You must be (or have been) a teacher. Well done with the simple example.

Edit: looked at your profile... phd student... in particle physics... makes so much sense.

For the record: I've never been a teacher and I didn't have to hold any lecture or exercises, yet.

On the other hand, being in particle physics is 25% coding, 25% presentations and 50% discussions.

I think the colony ship has more of a destroyer, therefore the corvette should have the more maneuverable destroyer design and the colony ship should look like this galleon-like corvette design. Especially because galleons were more of a heavy transport later in history and that fits better. Only thing that needs to be adjusted then would be the size like in the size<->tonnage threads.
