I apologize in advance if this has already been suggested, I reviewed the forum and it appears to be a unique idea.

As many players on the forum have noted, most battles end in the 'long range' phase with a few making it to medium range and almost none making it to close range. I suggest that during combat you should be able to choose if you would like to advance, hold, or move away from the enemy fleet, every round. This should be influenced by the speed of your fleet as a whole (modified of course by speed mods to affecting your fleet), with faster fleets being able to 'outrun' slower fleets in both approaching and falling back. A possible negative of this change is that it would give a lot of power to 'faster' fleets by allowing them to force the battle to remain at long range and using only missiles. On what seems like a plus, a fast fleet could rush to close (by using 'speed boost' card I mention below) and as such make kinetic weapons more viable.

There could also be a card that allows a 'speed boost' during combat to allow your fleet more speed during that one phase of combat, at the cost of being able to use any other card that turn of course.

My personal thoughts are that it is a neat idea, but it makes speed a bit too important. I do feel that currently combat is broken in that kinetic weapons are all but useless through most of the game.
