In hearts of iron (An extremely detailed world war 2 grand strategy game) naval fleets get bonuses for having logical compositions.



Larger ships with small escorts in the right ratios are more effective:



in this game you could have a significant bonus to your large ships for having an escort of small ships with them, in this way no actual changes to the large ships needs to be made, but they become more powerful in fleets
