Warning of Impending Victory

After a few games, I feel like there could be a better indication of what's going on before the game ends. Being told that you lose and having no indication of why you lose is frustrating and gives no indication of what to do to improve. smiley: smile I'd suggest maybe a (configurable?) warning that states "Intelligence shows that is going to achieve a victory in X turns!". I tend to enjoy playing a slow, sprawling, colonizing diplomatic game, but it's quite irritating to basically be told "Sorry you lose! I'm not saying why though!" after a long play session. Having a warning and some time to get to war or capture some science heavy planets to slow things down would add a lot in my opinion.

If there is something like this already implemented, perhaps making it more obviously visible would help.

I like this idea.

To expand on the idea some:

1) Some sort of "plant" with other factions (Spies?) that could relay this sort of information for you (and be unlocked through research) would clearly be the most interesting, but that could be a lot of work to implement. Perhaps they could also sabotage efforts!

2) Failing that, an option that warns you when someone is close to a type of victory. As an example, using a science victory, it would be good to know when a faction STARTS researching the game-winning ability. It would also be useful to know when maybe they are halfway towards completion, then 75%, then probably every 5% until they win. The "%" should be relayed in turns. Something like "The Sophons have begun research on a groundbreaking project! It is estimated that their research will be complete in X turns!" at the start of a project. Then a "The Sophon research efforts are halfway completed on a groundbreaking project! They will achieve victory in X turns!"...and so on, with the messaging becoming more dire and regular the closer they are to completion.

3) Diplomatic victories are trickier, but I believe something like this ought to be implemented as well there. Having the ability to sabotage someone's relations/frame another faction for something bad would be awesome to shake things up a bit, perhaps detectable by spies or somesuch. Obviously a failed framing would just annoy BOTH factions, and could lead to good times. Failing this though, messaging similar to the idea in #2 would be good. "The Amoeba have rallied strong support to their cause! It is likely they will form an unstoppable allied coalition in X turns!"

4) Population victory too! "The Horatio have spread to every corner of the galaxy. It is only a matter of time before their culture eclipses all others! They will achieve this in X turns."

Just my 0.02!

I don't know if this exists for every victory type, but I can confirm that this already exists for the Economic, Wonder, and Diplomatic victory types.

If you hover over your Empire /status button, it will display a quick breakdown of your economy. On the very bottom of that window, it will display, by percentage, any victory that you are close to getting. At a certain point, it will also display how close the AI's are. I haven't dabbled in MP yet, but I would imagine that it does the same for other players.

Hope that helps!

Turns out, the various victory indicators are on their specific button mouse-overs. Diplomatic on diplomatic, military on military, etc.

That is good to know, but I still think that as victory for someone who isn't you gets closer, you should get start-of-turn notifications about it. As is, it is unintuitive. There is already enough information in the game to keep track of, and I think a serious thing like "Warning! You are about to lose!" should be told directly rather than searched for.

I just lost a game minutes ago and the AI won by diplomatic victory. This happened two times now and i "moused over" it all the time. (every turn actualy) but it only showed me that i had a chance of 30%. I also had a 65% chance for expandation so i thought: yeah hurry up, and i have to say that i was part of an alliance of ALL factions except the cravers, i even started all the work to get the alliance built up so it was not even his work. whats the trigger for diplomatic victory? to do nonthing? life in peace and dont have beef with no one? xD i swear to god the game DID NOT display how far the other faction was in its progress for the diplomatic victory. just like you said the only info was YOU LOOSE! ... but the fact that it was MY alliance that defeated the cravers in cooporation made me feel like a winner too smiley: wink in any other directions i actualy was the leading force.

like i told it happened to me the second time so the feature would be great to see, especialy the idea of spionage for figure those things out sounds very nice.

The percentage isn't a chance to win, but rather how close you are to winning. Diplomacy victory requires acquiring a certain number of points which you acquire as people like you more. When you reach a certain number of points (100%), you win...

Victory situation is completely unfinished, first of all there no cinematic if you win smiley: smile

Then there is some strange problem if you loose - if you pressed "continue to play" you get "you lost" prompt from time to time - that's really strange.

And as mentioned victory condition winning by score is completely unclear.

Also I haven't figured out yet how to win tech victory - usually I win or loose way earlier smiley: smile

The reason you get a "You Lost" prompt is because the AIs are finishing various victory conditions.

Just quit out and it gives you a graph of where everyone is for all options.
