Far too often I see the enemy ship's numbers, or mine for that matter, decrease but the actual ships themselves are not being viewed. What I would like to see is that the combat engine prioritize the view show that any ships being destroyed in a phase are visible.

What do others think about this? Right now I feel as if I miss half the battle.

Will put into suggestion section if agreement is met

Perhaps you should try the free camera button. then view the whole battle from a fixed position to see both fleets.

That thing is a joke, you push it and you might not have anything in view. The camera is really broken in this game.

Umm.....if you have nothing on the screen after pressing the button then all you have to do is zoom out and move the camera angle left or right, up or down etc. It is a free camera. I have never been able to just see nothing after moving it. when i do use it, i normally wait until it has shown both fleets once first. but doubt that is a problem. If you continue to have that problem perhaps send it as a bug.

Free View instructions:

Moving the mouse while holding down right click allows you to turn the camera.

Arrow keys allow you to move forward, backward, left, and right.

Mouse wheel scrolls.

If you activate it when nothing is in view, just rotate the bloody POV until you see something - scrolling out helps. Or you could just make sure you're looking at one of the fleets when you hit the button.

I know how to use the camera, duh.

The point is the engine behind it is either not optimized or not working as intended, unless their intent was to avoid showing the player the combat.

I have activated it with both fleets in view, one fleet in view, etc, the result is totally random. I then spend a few seconds rushing trying to get an angle that works. This could all be solved by having the engine give preference to ship destruction, weapon launches, etc. Stuff that matters to the combat - instead of randomly bouncing from one view to another without regard to the action.

The camera is absolutely fine and there are no issues with it. If I had to nit-pick I'd say "I want WASD to be able to change the perspective" but that's because I'm lazy enough to not want to move my left arm.

EDIT: And you have about 10 seconds before the battle starts in order to pick up your first card and adjust for the best cinematic angle you can get. George Lucas would be proud of the close-ups you can get on those dreadnoughts.
