I feel like systems that are in another influence should receive a approval penalty, thus giving an edge to empire with lots of influence.

And could really chime well if the game ever gets a rebellion mechanic.

Oh please no, I swear you must be the bad idea fairy.

It would make assimilating new territory even worse that it is. It already is a bear to assimilate systems you take, and it gets worse should you declare peace or worse, you ally does for you. You can also push the radius out with improvements.

Since a full blown colony has its own influence I will assume you mean only penalize systems whose influence area does not adjoin the rest of the same empire?

I don't have much of a problem with it personally, make warmongering just that bit harder, although invasion recovery could use a slight buff.

Kinda, i feel like taking having a system in enemy influence should give you trouble.

We could have connected influence rings boost off of each other, allowing empires with connected systems a influence advantage over someone who has islands.

But i would love to hear more of your thoughts! :P

I second Ign's suggestion. Right now influence only serves to block opponents from colonizing systems under your influence. Once the colonizing phase is over there is little need for influence anymore. Letting foreign influence have an impact on approval ratings would open some nice possibilities.

In theory I'm with you on that, but what about species which tend to have huuuuge influence areas... means I constantly have to declare war on them rather than letting them come to me! smiley: smile
