Wouldn't it be nice if heroes were more fragile than they are now? We know how meaningless are injuries, a hero fails, no big deal. Once you have a decent economy, you can send heroes to a fleet without a second thought, whether they succeed or not, it is free EXP. Which then leads to stronger heroes, so it's a win-win situation regardless.

Now, what if we make heroes expandable, they could die during battle or failing to escape system sieges. This promotes players to analyze the situation and assign heroes accordingly with a risk factor. Your best fleet would be commandeered by your best captain and that fleet would represent your race. And since we are losing a very important subject of your empire should he/she fail, you'll think twice before sending the best captain to battle. It just promotes risk assessments and higher decision making, and an actual feel of loss when your best man dies in battle.

But of course, we got balancing issues. Since heroes could die, we would then have to lower the arrival timers and probably buff the academy limit.

I might have some faulty logic here and there, but discuss!

Moo2 did this with some notable success. If a hero was assigned to a ship, and that ship exploded, there was a chance the hero died based on a base percent chance boosted by whether you had any ships survive the conflict. There was even a piece of equipment (Survival Pods) which ensured that the hero survived. I never used 'em, but they were there...
