A HUGE NO

The worst thing in SotS2 apart from it being more BUG than game is the Ridiculous Fleet Constraint it has

In the beginning of the game I always (as far as I remember) had at least one hero with two "system" classes or with two "fleet" classes. That's enough for me.

Suppose to have and did are two different things. Just because it is suppose to put an end to dose not mean it will.

Well, the game gives to player three heroes in the beginning of the game. And a player always knows when the next hero arrives (which is strange if you think about it, but that's another question). So everything is predetermined. Except, of course, hero's classes. But odds to get right hero quite high already, I think.

You remind me of the how the pirates like to show up in a fleet of 16 destroyers, looks impressive along with the wall of fire they put down, tho they pop easily.

I think maintenance costs needs to follow an exponential cost. Right now, cost is CP*1. It should be CP^1.2*1.

Every fleet needs a hero (or an admiral?). It's strange to have fleet without one. What we'll get:

- A player can have many fleets built (as now) in hangars, but only few operational - as long he has heroes for them.

- Caps for academy (number of heroes) and command points (number of ships in a fleet) need to be slightly larger (+2 and +5?).

- A player must decide what better: assign a hero to a system (it's optional) or to a fleet (it's mandatory). So if a player chooses "more fleets" he looses heroes for systems.

- If a player assigned all his heroes to systems he can't have operational fleets.

- Scout ships can operate without hero.

- ??? May be every single ship can operate - alone. You can't gather them in fleet without having hero in that fleet.

- I believe this approach will stop fleet spamming.

There are many other, superior solutions to a 'fleet spam' problem, most of which have been and are still being discussed on these forums.

Makes sense the more war like race might actually spam ships, but the more diplomatic and science based races would be more strategic about placement.

Well, maybe we can let cravers spam their ships as usual. But this needs to be balanced somehow.

I pointed that in my suggestion [single] scout ship can operate by itself, without a fleet and a hero. But (you are right here) this must be applied to colony ships as well.

A set limit I find is kinda silly, especially with races like the cravers.

Bad ships being spammed is not good, but why stop the spam of good ships? that's what i do, why is it not a good thing? I want a big fleet, my economy can support it, so why not?

The idea that long turns is a bad thing only apply when your not actually doing something, otherwise why are you even playing the game?

The fleet spamming of the AI is indeed an annoying factor in especially in multiplayer where all those battles against masses of AI crap-ships are unnecessarily slowing down the turns.

But to stop this (and at the same time eliminating some balancing issues) it would be better to make the command point system applicable at empire level instead of fleet level.

For example rigth from the beginning everyone can have up to 18 cp per fleet as a fixed size that never changes (this will remove the current CP overpowering) . But the empire can only keep up 5 CP per owned Star System (can be improved by research).

Due to this small empires can not spamm endless counts of ships just because they have one or two high industy systems.

While I can see the point of this idea, i don't like it.

Also it would make the game very dependent on hero's that most likely wont always be helpful at all, and I find it hard to micro manage more then 2 hero's.

I believe the best counter to a fleet spam is a greater upkeep cost, or to simply build a counter military.
