Currently I view heroes as a mere "add-on" for the system or fleet they are attached to. They sure empower them a lot (maybe too much bonuses in some cases) but they have no flavour.

What distinguishes one hero from another with the same roles (i.e. Pilot/Corporate)?

Apart from their starting stats (a few numbers)? NOTHING

Their race doesn't matter, nor does his picture nor background. I mean, they are cool and everyting, and I'm not saying get rid of those things but to make them meaningful.

Add uniqueness to heroes in some way, maybe via unique traits or some sort of race dependant abilities.

Maybe amoeba heroes would perform better in Ocean worlds.

Maybe a pilgrim hero would cost more to hire/maintain to UE.

Maybe a hero is addicted to some luxury resource and having it makes him happier (costs less?)

Maybe some heroes have access to special abilities or don't have access to some other abilities.



Maybe "flatten" their power but distinguish it more: An Empire could have more heroes (depending on its size, not necessarily on tech) BUT heroes don't have as many abilities, i.e. a level 20 hero is not a million times better than a level 4. He is better, yes, but not in such an unbalanced proportion.

So far I play with 1 specialist hero for each role, and since it's not so hard to max them to level 20, it is really overpowered and a fleet with a hero tramples over anything on its path. BORING!



PLEASE devs, address these things, or make an option at the beginning of game to disable heroes altogether because so far they are just a boring game mechanic, and you can't just forfeit using them unless the AI does so too, because they really unbalance systems/fleets.
