This thread is the origin of discussions about adding further functions to the building queue UI.

Other threads about this have been archived:

Feel free to post here about this topic here and inform yourself about the variations the threads listed above have already discussed, but don't open new suggestion threads for anything alike. smiley: wink

Also, if I accidentally (like I did five minutes ago) click on a build queue item, it disappears from the queue. You'd say that's fine, just re-add it. Ah, but you lose all build progress (I.E. you've just scrubbed the ship you'd 90% built and started building a totally new one from scratch). It's happened to me a couple of times. I'd like for there to be a grace period where, if I put a part-built item back into a build queue, it hasn't wiped the progress. Prevents massive frustration in case of accidents when moving items around. This is something Civ does really well - if you have a part built item and it leaves the queue or goes further down the queue, after a dozen turns of not actively building it, the progress starts to decay so after 25 turns or thereabouts, all your industry invested is lost, but if you bump it back to the top of the list before that time, you get to keep some or all of your progress. Allows you to dump a quick ship build at the top of the queue but not build a Wonder and expect our progress to still be there, with the added bonus of not having that 'Rats, I just clicked my build item by mistake and lost all the progress' frustration.

My 2 cents.

smiley: approval UI Enhancement to include a "Move Item" rocker buttons

smiley: approval UI Enhancement to include a "Move to Top" & "Move to Bottom" rocker buttons

Drag & drop is ok... But I would rather have the buttons. When I have to move something from the top to the bottom, or vise-versa, I have to move it more than once. Due to the inadequate/missing self-scrolling function of the queue, during the drag & drop...

Would like something similar to Hearts of Iron 3 with their production que, a move item 1 position up button, a move item 1 position down button, a move item all the way to bottom of que button, and a move item all the way to top of que button.

Great idea, this is needed! I also like the shift+click idea. Perhaps also ctrl+click to move something to the bottom of the queue?

Having logged about 130 hours now, the build queue is a bit of a frustration for me. But for me the best fix would be a button that just expands it. So by default it sits at the size it does now, and operates exactly as it does now. But click an expand button and it expands vertically to take up screen height depending on resolution, so you can see the whole queue and drag items up and down more easily. Click button again to collapse. That would sort it beautifully for me.

Hey, I've logged over 50 hours of this game so far and I'm not sure I can forgive Amplitude for the amount of time I have wasted doing so, not to mention the lack of sleep I've been getting. Please can I have my soul back.

And please can you also include little "move up" and "move down" icons on the icon for the industry item when it's in the queue. I imagine you'd have to add a delete icon as well, and remove the function where clicking on the whole thing deletes it. Something like this:

I think the same functionality (changing the order) should be available in the research queue as well.

Hope this makes sense, and sorry if this has already been mentioned. Did try searching.

Perhap also shift+click existing queue item to make it first.

Yes, a way to insert a new item at the beginning of the list instead of pushing it at the end would be nice. I wouldn't mind "top /+1 / -1 / bottom" buttons either. But maybe the real issue is that the production queue is just too small.

I am fine with the drag and drop but I would like to see something to enable adding the new item at the top of the queue like shift+click will add the selected item as first one queued.

Okay, I slightly renamed the title. I think what you want is clear now and either solution would be fine for you. smiley: wink

Clicking on an entry deletes it. So all functions you describe are already present.

Do you still want an extra UI-element to do this stuff?

Yes I do the clicking and dragging quite a lot. However, the queue window is very small so if there are six or more items in it, and you want to move something from the bottom to the top, then it's quite painful to drag it up. You have to drag it up one or two places at a time. If you click and hold to drag the build item at the top of the queue window, the queue doesn't automatically scroll to the top. What actually happens when you let go is that the item you wanted to move just snaps to the bottom of the queue instead.

Maybe it's just that the intended move and drag function isn't working properly? Or maybe I've just missed something?

Now that I think about it, if you could just hold the build item at the top of the queue to make the queue automatically scroll, that would probably sort it. Or be able to resize the queue window. That would probably be simpler to implement than small buttons.

Thanks for the quick reply.
