On the hero screen, next to dismiss use a confirm button to allow player to back out of their choices made when the hero levels. That way we can make choices and see their effects on the hero's stats plus it helps when we click wrong

I've never found this to be an issue at all, you can hover over the upgrade to see the stat modifier.

It's not a complicated process, you're either going to be increasing FIDS modifiers or combat modifiers. You don't need to experiment, you just need to know what you're trying to accomplish with a particular hero.

Just play another game or two and you'll get the hang of it.

I agree this is a simply change and a good one to add. Hate to have a game spoiled just because I misclicked the wrong skill.

On the individual hero screen, there is a lot of unused screen space that could be utilized to show something like a hero ability "tech tree". If you've ever played World of Warcraft, think of the page where you assign talent points. Perhaps that would eliminate the need for a confirmation button and be more informative overall, allowing you to plan ahead easier. The User Interface in the game is generally very smooth and pop-up buttons take away from the smoothness a bit.
