Anyone who has played Distant Worlds will know what it is like to play in a game that successfully incorporates the distinction between the State and the Private sectors in a spacey 4X game.

I really like the idea of hiring privateers to help out with my wars... can I, afterwards once the war is won and pay day is lurking round the corner, ambush them in a far flung remote system in order to avoid having to pay them? These mercs are greedy y'know... lol

I heard about it, too, even tried it. Think it is a great game, but since I missed some improved grafics (like in ES or in Sins), I have left it somewhere in my Datastore, without touching it anymore. Wanted to try it during my vacation, but couldn't unpack it because of some stupid problem i couldn't fix before leaving. Now I play Dungeonkeeper 2...

But anyway, the complexity of the game is very interessting. Like with X3 Terran conflict (and the other X-Games) it is frustrating at first because of it's complexety, but when you stay patient and learn all you need, it is one of the most promissing games. Guess it is the same with Distant Universe - since valueing a Pc-Game only by it's grafics is like, valueing a porn-movie by it's story! But to add some of the complexity of DU to ES would be nice!

Subfactions and Corporations sounds fun! I don't need to control EVERY aspect of the game. Having AI-controlled-Subfactions which I can manipulate as I wish could be just as funny as just taking over all the systems by myself. That's why I usually have 1-3 Vassals in Shogun 2. A pitty they rebell against you in late-game.

This could improve diplomacy and sattisfy Players who wish more diplomacy in the game...like ME! smiley: cool

The game? Yes, very good. Probably one of the best spacey 4X games I've played. It is due for another expansion later this year. Watch some YouTube Let's Play vods for a good look-see.

The State / Private sector divide thing? Again; yes, it works very well. As a player you control only the State and at best you can only influence (and protect) the interests of the Private sector. I can't go into much detail here because it's a rather complicated system but suffice to say the Private sector are always in search of the next quick buck and it's up to you to keep all of their assets and trade lanes safe.

This was brought up in a thread about some thing similar but different nature. Here The implementation of more civilian infrastructure, more to the point adding corporations into the system level of the game. Perhaps has a type of system upgrade, that allows for civilian corporations to establish sub orbital and orbital stations for both trade and increased security.

The thinking is that in case of emergency like invasions the corporations private military can be drafted, for a set number of turns, to the control of the player. There private army’s can also be added to the resistance to invasion.

Each level developed in R&D and then upgraded to the system will increase number of turns and ship MP a certain amount.

Thanks to Igncom1 for idea bouncing.

Ok so thoughts, ideas?

While I like the idea... isn't this sort of a UE-flavoured thing? I mean, do the Cravers have corporations?

EatCorp -- How Do You Want To Be Devoured Today?

I mean, they're a race of creatures who take over a thriving ecosystem, devour and burn it out to suit their own needs, and then leave the gutted remains...

Gee, actually, retract my objections, they're EXACTLY like some corporations.

I feel it is more in the line of just a flavored defense improvement (As I understood it), one that deviated for the overused 'missile turret' type of deal.

Adding Corporations to the game is like adding diffrent political shemes to the game. Choosing what kind of politic you would like to use - or even which one you want to support more - could be the first step, before choosing what kind of corporate you want to support. Like the Idea, but i am affraid it won't happen. But perhaps you should suggest it at "Expansion-Pack"-Discussion!? /#/endless-space/forum/28-game-design/thread/11347-expansion-pack

It would be cool if corporations had more of an effect in the game. In the recursion series, after all countries had joined together as a united earth, the only "countries" left were seperate corporations (which were way too powerful for their own good).
